I was on my way to a local cove yesterday and stud motor stalled at idle in a no wake zone. Odd thing was that the port motor also showed a communication error on the Smartcraft monitor. Stbd low RPM and Port mid RPM. Re-started and continued on with no issue and took the long way back to port at the end of the day and boat ran great. I doubt this has anything to do with it but I ran out of Startron gas treatment when I filled up last week and used Stabil 360 in the stbd tank. Anyway, still watching.

Thanks Tripsdad, I wonder if it is a bit of old gas in the filter or some gunk got pulled through. I did fill up with 208 gallons right before we headed out. Maybe I stirred up something...

On a quarter tank on Port and a little less on Starboard. Will fill up in 2 weeks when we head out again.

My starboard engine will do the same thing. Usually at startup, the engine cranks and then about 15-20 seconds there will be one beep, the gauges all turn off and the engine stumbles. Immediately, the engine goes back to normal and the gauges restart. It's almost like the ignition turns off and immediately back on. The smartcraft doesn't show an alarm or malfunction code.
????

Did you go through the main grounds on your engine block? I thought I was having an issue, so I pulled all the grounds on my starboard motor, cleaned the terminals and put star locking washers and no-ox between each of the terminal rings as I re-installed them. There is 7 ground rings on the block... not the best design imo

On mine it will usually happen at cruise speed and does not happen that often. I don't know too much about these things but Bruce's comment about "Bad ground or other connection" makes sense.

I have had it do it at speed. I hear a single beep and there is a momentary surge in power, but then the engine goes back to normal. Last week, right after I got up on plane, it beeped and all of the starboard gauges went dead. The engine was still running but all gauges were off like the motor switched off.

I will look at the ground wires and see if I see something loose. It never does it on the port engine so it's something specific to the starboard motor.

This also only happens on my starboard motor as well. I will also check the grounds later this week.

when i went to tighten my grounds (starboard also) i got a 1/4 turn.... i didn't think it would make a difference, but seems to have. on the 7.4L, its Right by the starter, so its easy to get to on the starboard V drive... i might of went overboard, but when you pull 7 ring terminals off a single bolt its a little hokey to start with, imo. i know its common to do it, but seems hokey none the less

Would love to hear from any owners of Sundancer 380 with CAT 3126 diesels or Merc 8.1 Horizon gas engines...trying to decide between two same year 2002 boats. There is a price differential of $20k more for boat with diesels, but it also has a newly installed bow thruster.

$20k more for a 380 with diesels and a bow thruster is well worth the money. My vote.

If i had the choice, i would of paid the extra $20k for diesels.... Bow Thruster would of been Lagniappe....

If the boats are in similar condition and have both been maintained equally then yes I would pay the extra $20K for the diesels and the thruster (The thruster alone is $10K to install) in a heartbeat. But if the conditions vary then you have to weigh the decision more closely.
