And yet I'm now starting my 3rd season with the Zyrex and I'm not complaining. At lift out last fall there was very little stuff on the bottom of my boat and 5 - 10 minutes with the pressure sprayer and I was done. Go figure. "shrug"

but just out of curiosity.....rather than removing it if unhappy with it......since it seems to be hard as hell why not leave it on as a barrier coat.....and paint over it? anyone ever tried that?

+1. You gotta go with what works for your area. I haven't painted since 2009 and am coming out in a few weeks for a few fresh coats. I have Micron CSC or Extra (I forget which). Once per year since 2010, the divers spend very little time on the hull and most of the time on the props and shafts mid season.

Hauled out yesterday. New Zyrex paint last year. Second time now. For those of you who remembered two years ago in the spring I had my boat sand blasted and then 5 coats of Zyrex. Pulled out in late Aug or early Sep of last year and loaded with barnacles and slime. Took five days after work with help to get all of the barnacles off the boat. Boat was put back in the water pulled again in late Oct of last year and loaded again with barnacles.
Zyrex sent me some other paint with huge excuses about the Bay. So in the spring I hand sanded the the entire of bottom of the boat and repainted it with the new Zyrex paint. Splashed in the spring and ran the boat off and on all summer. Pulled yesterday and I was the only boat in the marina with barnacles on the bottom. Some boats had a couple here and there but mine from bow to stern it was covered. With two people helping me they powerwashed while I cleaned the bottom with a snow shovel. Total time 1hour and 45minutes. Put it on the hard and still have cleaning to do.
Funny thing at 3200 rpms I was still running at 22/23 MPH.
Not a fan. I'll try to post a picture of the bottom.

Having my 370 done as I type. The guy up in Antioch tells me it'll last 5 years and will clean up easily with a brush and hose. I guess I'll find out in about 10 months.

I really hope it works for you but im pretty sure it wont. Im just across the lake from you and this was the worst bottom paint I have ever seen. I ended up sanding the zyrex just enough to scuff it up and applied vc17. I will never use any other bottom paint because vc17 did a fantastic job. No growth and any slime came off with a touch of a hand at the beach. It hurts knowing i spent appx 5 k putting zyrex on and they basically said sorry and have a nice day. If you can stop the process of putting zyrex on i would HIGHLY recommend it. This was just my experience and have an entire marina that can vouch for my nightmares with zyrex

Micron CSC worked great for me on the south shore of Lake Michigan.

I called Interlux and some other company - they said you can't paint over that it would cause blisters. Not sure how but that is what they said.

I just can't comprehend all the Zyrex issues. I've had it on mine for 2, going on three seasons. We saw a 15% increase in fuel economy, and 10% increase in speed. We do get a little growth over the winter, but we pull it every spring and spend an hour with the pressure washer and it looks new again. Two of have the paint in the marina with similar results. I wonder if a few of you have had a "bad" batch, or if the prep was off.

I'm going into my 4th season with it with no issues yet.

Cleans pretty easily in the fall....and looks like new again.

I thought that as well about the bad batch, but last year they sent me another batch and I resanded the bottom and repainted 4 times. The most barnacles we saw on the bottom of the boats was less than twenty. I was in the thousands.
I did have my boat sand blasted to the gel coat and then did all the prep work to get it ready to paint. Waited at least two to three days between coats. When I pulled that year the boat was covered. We spend 5 days after work with snow shovels removing them. Last year I have barnacles but they didn't have any.
As for pictures I can't seem to post any. I'll keep trying.

Nope.......wouldn't know a barnacle if one came up and bit me in the butt.
