Well, I know there's a ton of discussion about dinghies and whether to go new or used. Here's my dilemma, please give me your thoughts. I currently have an older Sugar Sands jet boat that I don't use that often. Normally when we do, its trailered to the big boat and used as a dinghy. The NADA says its worth around $2,300. I am looking at a 1999 Zodiak RIB with a 1999 15hp Johnson. It includes the boat, motor, fuel tank, paddles, cover, foot and electric pump and a complete weaver davit system. The guy was asking $2,600 for the whole thing but is interested in trading even for my jet. He is the original owner of the dink and it looks like new, BUT it is older. Question is, do you think with that package it is worth what he's asking, and do you think it would be a wise trade?? Thanks as always for your guidance!!

The reality of the answer to your question is that none of us can evaluate this in your terms. If you think you would like the Zodiac setup more than your current setup, make the trade. Don't worry about what we think of if one might be worth a couple of hundred more than the other.

The real value in making this trade can only be determined through your eyes.

I have a 12.5 zodiac. Take out all the loose parts and look for wear at the connection points. If they are underinflated they will wear quickly. Mine is 15 years old not used much. It also looks like new but is only worth 1,000 or so.

Thanks guys. Sorry, forgot to mention its a 10'. I know I will use it more than the jet, so to me its "worth" more than the jet. I'm just a little gun shy of the age and hoped you guys could help put a value on the package to take my personal interest and desire out of the equation.

I'm going to bump this with a new question. Admiral decided to keep the jet, but gave me the ok to get the dink. So, based on the info provided, what would you put on this package for a cash value? I've got him down to $2300. Is that a fair deal?

Too much for that old a boat & motor. The motor is worth maybe $1,000 with the boat worth a bit less IMO.

BTW, I just made an offer of $4K on a 2004 Novurania center console with a 30HP 4-stroke Honda. Time to buy my friend and the deal should be yours.

I bought a "like new" 2004 Achilles 10'-4" dink with a 2004 8hp Yamaha "like new" condition with all the extra's plus a 12 volt pump and a wheeled engine stand for $900.

Gofirstclass nailed it. screw us.. Its all about your wants and needs. If the zodiac will service you and yours better than the jet boat go for it

Are you ready for Labor Day??? Did you just awaken from a long winters nap? :smt043

This thread is from August, it is now SPRING!!! Yeah!!! Have a great boating season.

That's an awesome deal, Ken. I wish I could find one like that I'd jump on it real fast.

I think the pkg is just too old... Why wouldn't you look for a good used motor for $1,000-$1,200 and buy the RIB new for $2,000. So for $600 more then your willing to pay for a 12 year old setup you have a lot less worries

Well, Lucky's, has this decision been made?

I think we all have Spring Fever.

Yes it has, I believe I posted somewhere when I bought it, but if not, I ended up with the Walker Bay 310 RIB. And the verdict.....I LOVE IT!!!!!! No regrets with that decision. The boat handles great and flies. I purchased it with a Nissan 9.8hp 4 stroke and ended up trading that off for a 15hp Johnson 4 stroke. That package is one of the best decisions I've made. Thus winter, from the advise of Scott and a couple others on this site, I put a set of the Maxi-Marine lifters on it. As good as it was before them, i can't wait to see how it handles after. I live on a small inland lake and I think I'm gonna drop it in there this Sunday and try the lifters before I launch it at our slip. Which, btw, is in 2 weeks!!!!!! Just got the call from the marina yesterday about the launch!!
