Zipper trouble

I have a broken nylon (plastic?) zipper on my Isenglass. The little tab at the bginning of the zipper came off, which lets the ends separate, and the zipper itself is coming open. I cant seem to get the zipper closed and open the right way so i can remove it to get it fixed. I dont want to force it, unless necessary. Any ideas???

Since it will have to be fixed anyway, why not call a canvas shop and have them remove it and then repair it?

Calling a canvas shop to come out would work, but they charge to come out. I would prefer to take it off myself if this is possible. Will the zipper have to be cut or something to get it off?? Since anything to do with a boat costs DOUBLE anyway, i try to cut my costs and pour the savings in the gas tanks when i can. Thanks

Bob........having struggled with broken zippers or zippers that have seperated on clothing, it is possible to work them loose by alternately pulling on one side of the zipper and then the other while you are also tugging on the zipper pull tab. I have worked many a zipper loose in this way.

Since you will need to resew it, can you get to the stitching and use small sharp sizzors to cut the stitching and remove the zipper from the canvas? The canvas shop will do that.

darn thing ! !

If I understand the reply correctly, the zipper is shot and will be replaced anyway??? OK, if this is correct, then I can just surgically remove it then right?? If it’s a loss, no need to take any extraordinary measures....just take it out and have it replaced??
Thanks for he help ! !
