Zipper replacement.

Most of the canvas on my SD 250 is in good shape however the zippers on the top are corroded and unuseable. I have searched the web and found replacements. Has any owner tried to use replacements and do they work?

I had a few zippers replaced a few years back I took the canvas to a local canvas shop and had them replaced I think they charged me like $75.00 per zipper

I had the zippers replaced that hold the canvas to the arch and some re-stitching last month by a local canvas shop. They remade the two pieces that slide in the channel on the arch and replaced the matching zippers on the canvas. It was about $ 260 for that portion.

UPDATE::: I contacted two local companies that specialize in “boat” tops and canvas. Both wanted to replace the zippers at a cost of a couple of hundred bucks. On the way home I stopped at a back door type, small awning business with one of my broken zippers and explained the problem. The lady that owned the business reached into a drawer and came out with several #10 Delrin sliders and showed me how to remove the corroded slider with needle nose pliers and replace with the new slider. DONE... the center glass works like new.


Cost for sliders $2.00…. Not 2 bucks each, but 4 for $2.00….. Guess who gets my business.

But you only fixed part of your problem.

In your area, the sun and salt takes its toll on both the zippers and the stitching. There are 2 parts to the zipper....the slider and the chain (teeth). You are only replacing the slider and your chain and stitching are weathered. You'll be lucky to get thru the summer without problems. About every 3-4 years in our area you should take the top to a canvas shop and have it restitched.

Most guys in PC charge about $25/zipper to replace the whole thing if you take the top to them, more if they come to the boat.

Actually the stiching and zipper teeth are in excellent condition. It is only the sliders that were bad.
