This weekend noticed the starboard tranny did not "clunk" (positively engage) into gear when changing to reverse and when back at dock, I observed that the tranny would engage slowly after a couple of seconds and work fine thereafter, no slipping etc. Fluid was nice and red and at a reasonable level.

Simple one I hope.

Thanks

My starboard tranny has never clunked into or out of gear. It is always in or out of gear and you can not feel it. Port is more noticable.

1 oil level low
2 filter dirty
3 oil too thin
4 linkage out of adjustment
5 engine rpm high { clunk }
6 hydraulic pump going bad {$$$}

To get counter-rotating shafts, one of your transmissions turns in reverse and the other in forward.......in "ZF-speak", one is in A position; the other in B position. It is quite normal for the port and stbd transmissions to sound a little different.
