I’m considering purchasing a 47’ sundancer with the Zeus pods. Unfortunately, I’ve been hearing a lot of negative feedback and mechanics telling me to STAY AWAY! Is this real or just a few bad stories?

Search for zeus on here. There are a couple lengthy threads. The problem with pods in general is that they are tremendously expensive to repair. The zeus pods have several known failure points as detailed on the site. You search for zeus you'll find em

I have a zeus boat as do several members here. I would proceed like any other purchase. Look for proper service records. Maintenance is key. If you have the maintenance history of the pods and the seals have been maintained, that helps. If not, i would negotiate in the service required to bring them current. Pull all samples and have them tested. Presence of water in the drive lube is indicative of a seal failing.

With all that, I put 100+ hrs on my boat last year and LOVED every minute. Good luck w your search.

Been a pod owner for 7+ seasons and > 1,000 hours and haven't had any catastrophic failures (knock wood). I find many mechanics who trash Zeus are afraid of them, or don't understand them. Case in point, my Cummins technicians tell me they spend a ton of their time being called in to fix botched repair jobs by boatyards who actually hold themselves out to be Zeus experts. In my area in southern NJ, I don't trust my pods to anyone but Cummins directly. I have a Cummins dealer who works on my engines, but he won't touch my pods even if I ask him to. Begs the question Nassef, where would you do your boating? I would make sure there are qualified Zeus technicians nearby and I would ask around to qualify their expertise.
