Your Stinking Holding Tank

What is the name of this stuff, the blue stuff? Or does the other Sealand odor additive work just as well?

Thanks

Porta-pack from Walmart.

Add me to the list of people who made their filters this year. I didn't use the 2" pvc threaded adapters however as that set-up would not fit in the housing on top of the tank. I went with new end caps on both sides of the pvc pipe. I purchased extra adapters so that I'll have everything ready for next unit I build. I've calculated my cost to be less than $5 each filter, including the charcoal pellets!

okay, right, but I don't have a filter on there.

Is it possible someone removed the vent filter before you purchased the boat?

Do you have the porta-potty or the vacuflush?

In another 260 Sundancer with vacuflush that I saw the vent filter was physically attached to the top of the holding tank. The vent line screwed into the vent filter. The vent filter screwed into the holding tank. A white strap with a buckle kept the vent filter in place.

I don't see a "Filter" part. Maybe I'm blind?

Could it be part of the HOLDING NEW OWNERS GIFT PACK? Nah!

The 260 was changed a lot around 2005 I think. The one where I remember seeing it had the built in swim platform.

It’s possible your 260 Sundancer did not have one.

Does it smell when you flush? Are you considering adding a holding tank vent filter? If you don’t have a issue I guess there is no need to change anything.

I have issues "at times". usually when it's close to full, normally, no. but it could not hurt to have a filter in there, I had the boat three + years and never thought about whether or not it had a vent filter on it.

If you can reach the vent line and it's long enough, it's easy enough to splice in and install a filter. It just needs to be supported whereas the line itself can sort of dangle.

Ken: This is a great idea. I'm a big do-it yourselfer and this looks like one of the easier projects to tackle. I'm going to pick up the parts and try it after I pump out next time. Thanks for the photos.

okay, I"m blind, it was on top of the tank towards the front, it was obscured from view by all the hoses. I've opted to just use a rubber coupler instead of the male/female ends. Thanks for all the replies.
