Sold my 2001 310 last season and looking at the 40. We are a family of 4 (kids 9 and11) and spend about 60 nights a year on the boat and a week at a time for vacation, with a few days on the hook Love the Chesapeake and looking at extending our range and cruising with diesels.

Thoughts on boat overall. Reliability of systems, maintainability, and reliability. Read from some threads that folks felt boat was under powered with qsb 380. We like cruising around 20
knts.

Thanks in advance for your input as hope to make an offer this weekend.

Thanks.
Joe

You can also check out the 390DA thread which is an identical boat....same power plant packages, same hull, LOA, beam, weight, etc. I have a 2005 390DA with QSB5.9's 380 HO. IMO, it's a great boat with a great power plant. As you know, it's a single head boat, so if that's what you need, it's an excellent family boat. You will easily cruise at 22+kts all day long....and the diesel engines will purr. As with any boat, keep up with the maintenance and be sure the PO did as well, and you will have a very reliable and solid boat that will chew up plenty conditions (within reason) most bays and sounds can and will throw at you.

I did re-prop my boat as I found the original to be over propped. Re-propping improved my performance across the load range. PM me for details or other opinions on the model and power package.

Good luck!

Tom

Have you thought about the 420DA/44DA? Its a lot like the 40DA with more power, 2 heads and a pocket door for the aft state room instead of the curtain on the 40.

We moved from a 32 Dancer to a 2003 40 Sedan Bridge. Great boat with a lot more space.

We did but the boats we were looking in the condition we liked was a bit out of our range. Also we really do like 2006/7.

Thanks for the input. New to diesels as well and glad to hear your experience. I did go through all the posts on the 390 thread. Very informative.

I noticed the boat is in Mystic per your other thread. I have a buddy who has a 2006-2007 blue hull 40DA in Mystic, wondering if its his boat.

One head for 4, single bed for kids....I'm affraid in 2 yrs you'll be looking to upgrade again.

I have a 2006 40 with those engines, LOVE IT. We moved fro a 320 in 2013. Wife needed a door on the bedroom. Not sure I would do it with 4 kids though. My wife and I stay on it every weekend from end of April into Sept. Kids are getting older, they only stayed out together a couple times last summer. We feel the boat is a great couple boat and is OK when all 4 are on board. We had one weekend with 4 kids and I was a little cramped. I have seen a number of 44s for sale for not much more. We have friends with one and you get way more space. Additional head, and larger aft cabin.
