Your burger choice when grilling on the boat

And if we're talking restaurants Five Guys is the winner!

I discovered 5 Guys a few weeks ago and believe I may have gained 5 lbs. since then.

The Boca Burgers (veggy) didn't really do anything on the grill. They just laid there...

I also had the misfortune of having to cook some Boca burgers for a non-red-meat-eating boat guest once. Gary is right they just laid there.... No sizzling, color change, nothing. So when the real burgers were done I had to assume the Boca burgers were done too and fed them to our guest who ate them without complaint.

I prefer the All Natural Fur Burger on the boat.

About a month after God created Adam and Eve, he decides to stop by the Garden to see how they are doing. He comes upon Adam and asked "Where is Eve?"

Adam replied "She went down to the river to get cleaned up."

God replied "Oh no! Now I'll never get that damned smell out of the fish."

I don't get it...

Finally saw the infamous "Bubba Burger" today in BJ's.....Never heard of them before.

Omaha Steak burgers on Martin's Potato Bread rolls....

I vote for Bubba Burgers. Before grilling, season with a little bit of garlic powder, Hickory flavored salt, and, hand rub with some ground Marjoram.

The Admiral buys ground sirloin for patties like a number of others who've posted.

This answer is not directly on point but...

I found grilling ground meat on a Magma butane grill to be an exercise in fire control and how many red welps I could take on my forearms. So, it is marinated chicken breast burgers on our boat.

Speaking of the Magma...how is that grill to use? I know it's not gona be even close to my Texas Char Griller but is it OK? I got one thrown in on the deal with my 390.

I've gotten partial to those big burgers that Costco sells:thumbsup:(my cardiologist would dis-agree)...hook them up with those big sesame buns they sell and you're good to go. Bubba Burgers aren't bad for a quick meal.

I'm not a big fan of Magma gas grills. They basically cook by heating up the stainless bottom and the food is cooked with convective heat instead of radiant/infrared heat you get from cooking over a hot charcoal fire or gas grill with mega burners on it. Also the BTU's/sq inch on the grates is small. It essentially bakes food instead of searing it with infrared rays.

Someone needs to come out with a portable gas powered infrared grill for a boat...

But if you have enough grease drip on that thingamabob plate doohicky, you get a decent flame to sear the meat. but not too much as you'll make a mess.

I think that is because the smaller propane canisters can't deliver the fuel fast enough, and that's what the Magmas are designed for. (I'm just theorizing, but with the IR burner at home, I notice the difference when the propane gets low)

Ill....7th? 100th? the bubba burgers. I need to try the reduced fat ones though, if they are still good I could eat 5 of them a day...

Hmm that makes sense Todd. I really like my Magma party kettle grill, it does a good job for us, We cook hot dogs / burgers / steaks / chops all the time on it.

When we bought the 320DA I bought one of the bigger Magmas (newport?) but returned it without using it as I couldn't fin a decent place to store it on the boat.

Threadjack - What mount do you use for your party kettle? Any pics of where it's installed and how it looks? I'm trying to figure out the best mount for my application.

Doug

Sorry, no pictures of my mount, but I have the older version of one of these:

http://www.magmaproducts.com/Produc...s005_Mounting/Gas005_120/A10-121/a10-121.html

The grill is mounted so it is over the swim platform. This lets me stand on the platform when cooking (the 320DA has a huge platform). The kettle grills don't seem to leak so I've never had an issue with it being there. On my 260DA, I used the same mount but it was over the side of the boat. This turned into a problem when we'd raft up.

Ok thanks for the tip. I'm unsure which mount will work the best. I don't think I have room to get under the gunwhale for attaching hardware like that mount requires.

I'll double check.

Doug
