5 o'clock Somewhere - 2006 Crownline 250CR

This was our first boat....bought it new in the 80's. The pic is from the Trent Severn, Ontario where we came across it 20 years later. I guess the name stuck

Have only had 2 with names.
Shegunia River was a 20' ex DFO jet boat. A legend up here.
Miss Gnomer is the current 245. My wife has to stretch her neck to make 5' and doesn't like the Gnomer part. Someone referenced a garden gnome to her once upon a time. I don't mind it after hearing that story.

We've had 2 boats, first one we didn't name. When be bought this one, both my kids were playing soccer. My youngest played into college but the oldest gave it up for football. Any way, they were used to me saying lets head to the lake and kick back when we had the first boat. That stuck and they decided Kickin' Back was the name. Combined 2 things they loved to do best.

Dad bought a 17’ Penn Yan back in the early 70’s on a goof when he went with a friend of his to look at another boat that his friend was buying. Sellers last name was Bates. So when Dad showed up at home with a boat that not only was a complete surprise to my Mom, but also said Master Bates, it had to go. That boat ended up being named Erich Kim named after myself and my sister. In the late 70’s early 80’s we moved up to a 1977 21’ Cruisers Bonanza I think it was. That one was named Sea Hawk. Then in 1994 my Dad bought a 1995 Penn Yan 225 Outrage. We fished a lot so named it Hooked Up. Loved that boat. I eventually inherited it and was the boat that we finally parted ways with last fall when we bought our 2004 300DA. Very excited for our first season this spring on Keep it Clean. My wife says I’m OCD, so I guess the name fits, plus we have an 11 year old daughter who has developed a potty mouth upon hitting middle school so it has a double meaning as we are always yelling at her to watch her mouth. Lol

Only two named boats, but I'm gonna bet best back stories...

In 1980 bought '76 22ft Mako CC, twin 115HP Evinrude - "Reality"

Named after a 36' C&C sloop with a family of four we rescued 100 miles off Cape May NJ in 1977 during a November full gale while aboard the USCGC Cape Starr 95320. Disabled adrift they thought they were about 20-25 miles offshore when they called. Cape May dispatched their 44' MLB with a crew of four. This is in 1977 no GPS, no LORAN, just radar and VHF direction finder. After passing 50 miles and still no sighting a CG HH52 helicopter is sent out by this time the 44 is 75 miles out and the aircraft finds the boat almost 100 miles out. 44 crew continues on, but anytime a MLB is more than 50 miles offshore a Patrol Boat must back them up. So the Cape Starr had been dispatched from Atlantic City and were about 50 miles out now. 44 MLB finds the sailboat and attempts to take in tow. Conditions so rough they end up fowling one shaft on their tow line. Eventually get a tow established but operating on one engine they can only hold position in seas. We get on scene about three hours later. After removing the family of four using our 16' Zodiac I was put aboard to re-secure the tow. Then rode it in the next 12 hours over night. So a 95' Cape Starr towing 44' MLB towing 36' sailboat. So while riding in I manage to hand start the diesel, yes hand start. Turned out it had a hand crank and compression release which holds the intake valves open; you crank like hell to get some flywheel inertia and pop the release. So after a few tries now I am keeping the batteries charged to maintain lights and radio power. We arrive at Cape May Inlet around 4 AM, my skipper starts trying to organize how we are going to cross the bar or wait til daylight. So I inform him I have power and can make way will just need line handlers at the station. We drop all tows and I cross first, then 44 MLB with Cape Starr covering us, then she comes in last.
So this is how a 19 year old Third Class Machinery Technician gets his first "command". ;-)

Current BABOAT in 2016 is a simpler story.
Go to pickup boat from dealer first time see it on the trailer and I say "Damn, that's a big ass boat on that trailer".
Daughter wants to name it "The Big Ass Boat". No way as an ex Coastie am I ever getting on the radio and saying that. So we settle on the acronym.

Thinking about Kubernetes for the new to me 380. It's an IT thing I/we use with our software, and it's Greek for Helmsman. It's emblem is a ships wheel.

"The name Kubernetes originates from Greek, meaning helmsman or pilot. K8s as an abbreviation results from counting the eight letters between the "K" and the "s". Google open-sourced the Kubernetes project in 2014."

First larger boat was "Sledley" it was a 89 390 and we thought is was a big sled.
From that point we have used "Bahama Breisus " it has been on our 420 and 500, now our 37. We love the Bahamas and Breisus is a play on our names Reis and Susan and sounds like breezes.
