So, I still have t activated my satellite on the boat from what I hear it can be a PITA to get up and running, then I heard about you tube Tv it's $35 month ,cancel anytime and has most channels I want. Also unlimited cloud DVR that will save shows for 9 months. You also are allowed 6 users on one account.
Im thinking this may be the answer I was waiting for to go along with my Kodi and external Hardrive.
I really want to watch e local news channels when I wake up in the mornings.
Does anyone have this service yet? Any pros, cons?

I'd skip paying for Youtube TV altogether. If you've got a device on your boat that will run Kodi and the bandwidth to support it - you're home free.

Check out "USTVnow" addon if you don't already have it. It runs ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox if I recall correctly. All live. Exodus should get you "every other channel known to man"...Pheonix for sports.

I'm not sure what you'd be missing that Youtube TV would give you?

+1 on this Joe, Kodi all the way. I don't think there is anything youtube will give you that Kodi won't and its free. If you have wifi service (which you would need for youtube) you can use Kodi. Just make sure its update with the latest addons.

I just uploaded the USTV add on wow it actually works I havent found an add on for local tv that was simple to use. Thanks for the heads up. I signed up for the free version right now to see if I can tether my phone for unimited viewing.

We have Direct TV in the house, boat & motorhome.... It is great. One weekend though my dish was blocked by a larger boat so I broke out the antenna for over the air and had 20+ available for free !

Mark I do use the glomex for local channels but most of the time I'm too far for a good signal.

i have DirecTV at home.....with the DirecTV app on my phone and laptop computer and the marina's Wi-Fi i can stream live TV (not all channels) and recorded programs from my home set-up to the boat.....i can play the stream on my flat screen TV's on the boat....i usually use a direct connection between my computer and the TV with an HDMI cable for better quality.....i have not tried to stream DirecTV over 4G yet but it should work OK for when we are away from the dock....i just don't want to use up my data plan like that....

i use the Glomex antenna for local news and programming.....we also get over 20 channels with the Glomex.....

we also have Blu-ray DVD players connected to both TV's to watch movies....

but we watch very little TV at the boat....we are usually only there for the WE and most of that time is spent with dock friends or cruising/swimming or working on 'projects' or cleaning the boat......

My point here was "not to get direct or dish" we hardly watch tv on the boat I only wanted the morning news. As I stated I have Kodi and an external Harddrive with over 80 HD movies on it so far.
I haven't watched a blu Ray in nearly 5 years or more.

Do you need a computer for the Hard Drive or does it connect directly to the TV?

I just started playing with kodi, and I'm digging it but will still turn on the sat service for the basics andl live programming. We don't always have Internet I can burn through my data plan realy fast!

I'm actually using an old laptop, but it works great.i upload the movies at home during the winter and plug the HD in during the summer works flawless so far.

I like alot of these alternate ideas but like Paul said, wifi is an issue in alot of areas that we boat and data goes fast now with a couple kids added to our plan. It costs me about $16 a month to add the 2 boat receivers to my DirecTv plan for my home & for that nominal fee I get programming & functions that I am familiar & comfortable with no matter where I am. I also don't ever watch local news. I am more interested in the kids channels & local sports programming which are basically "cable" channels not available over the air. I also like all of the movie channels as well that are premium channels.

I upgraded my data plan to unlimited for the summer months. We'll see if there is any throttling after the 20G. As far as content I use Amazon, Netflix, and I have a Sling Box connected to my DVR at home which works great. I use the Lightning to HDMI connector to get my phone to display on the TV. Having a hard wire to the TV is the biggest hassle. I wonder if AppleTV would help with that.

I cannot rely on wifi for streaming video even with a rogue wave, I have unlimited data on my phones with 14gb each phone of tethering so it will be fine. I will even tether my iPad while cruising for chart and internet use. All tv's on the boat have Apple TV so anyone can stream to any tv all our home stuff is Apple also makes life easier for us.
