You Seattle Boaters need to quit down!

'Bout time. Wish they'd do that around here.

"illegal to play music from a boat if it can be heard 300 feet away" That's kind of subjective based on the listener I think... and 74 decibels at what distance? Sounds like it will be difficult to enforce.

No worries. The US Supreme Court ruled that any law or ordinance aimed at loud music is unconstitutional if it exempts any group. So if the ordinance only targets boats but does not address cars, or if it allows bars to have louder music, or it exempts political or religious organizations, then the entire law is unconstitutional. Sadly so many of our elected officials are completely uneducated in constitutional law and unenforceable BS like this gets passed and cities get sued.

They have a similar law for car stereos in Florida and I am under the impression that it is regularly enforced. Florida Statute 316.3045 lets law enforcement officers stop a motor vehicle if a stereo is "plainly audible at a distance of 25 feet or more"

No, it hasnt been enforced in 2 years since the ruling came down. No cars are stopped anymore. I should know. Cities are trying to work a way to stop loud music and comply with the consitution such as in Tampa Bay where they are writing a new one that applies to all humans without exception. For now the OFFICIAL word is FSS 316.3045 is unconsiotuitional and is not to be applied or enforced.

Interesting, I missed that being found unconstitutional. There certainly aren't as many of the loud car stereo's as there used to be, maybe the fad just died.

Can you cite the case or post a link for all of us that like reading that kind of stuff?
