You are NOT going to believe this

Which is the dumbest thing people can do (this is not directed at the OP)! You're basically saying come steal my property if you do something like this. The same goes for people who leave their keys in their cars. Even leaving keys in the car while locked in the garage is a dumb thing to do. C'mon people! Common sense goes a long way.

This is where the "bashing" came from, a few posts back. Not bashing? Sure it is! "dumbest", "dumb", "C'mon people!", "Common sense"...yea, it qualifies.

You must live in a place where you must take these precautions; I do not. I occasionally leave my keys in the car in the driveway, I leave my windows open at night and we occasionally forget to lock the front door. But first, it would take a thief some effort just to stumble upon the place. And then, well, they'd have some trouble if they weren't careful...

An open door with keys dangling from the ignition is no invitation to take what isn't yours. I know I wouldn't take it.

Anyway, just wanted to clear up the confusion on the "bashing" post. :smt101

Well your a lucky one. I live in a gated comunity and we still have cars stolen/broken into, houses broken into etc. So around here if it's left unlocked or with the keys in it that's like putting a welcome sign for the theives.

Any suggestions as to where one might purchase such a small rectangular plastic container with a three-digit combo lock?

I'm a locksmith and the "KeySafe" products are pretty good for spare key storage, but I think you're better off finding a really obscure hiding spot.

My spares are on my home and truck key rings and I leave regularly used keys on the float and in the boat.

I live in Vermont we don't have any crime. We are all sleepy from the maple syrup overdose.

Posting an opinion is not bashing.

Nevertheless, everyone should take precautions. It should just be part of the daily routine. That's all I was trying to express. Much love for CSR!

Understand the feeling I went down to my boat and found out someone stayed on the boat all night and had a little party.

The next day I put a silent alarm which just calls my cell phone:smt038 Can't wait for someone to try it again:smt021

Not to hijack, but you, sir, have some incredibly quotable quotes. I have added this one and the "punch babies" one to my permanent library of expressions.

Thank you :smt038

At least one person gets my jokes. thanks.

I am not a private investigator, but have watched enough CSI to know this has to be an inside job. The person is gaining access to the marina through a locked gate that requires a code, so he or she must be a fellow patron or has obtained the combination from one. Your boat is singled out of how many moored in that marina? This person knows your routine/schedule and knew that the keys were on board. Let's see, smoking and drinking and joyriding, yep sounds like kids to me. If it was a thief, you would probably be missing more than just gas and booze. My guess is that you will eventually find out who the culprit is. Just be thankful that they didn't do any more damage than a cigarette burn on your carpet.

If this holds any truth than I must be a professional baseball player. GO CARDINALS:smt038

Update to this thread since I am at the same marina......They have added 3-4 new gaurds that continue not to lock my gait behind themselves. They also yelled at me for being to loud as I was taking my dog to poop.

I would look at the guards first……after all who’s watching them.
Now that they added more guards, the party will have to move to a bigger boat.

Why haven't you notified the police? If someone "borrowed" your car you would call the police.

I have to tell this story because it pertains to this thread. I was telling my friend who is at the same marina about subject of this thread. He started laughing and laughing and said; I have had to use the similar story of someone stealing the gas in his boat and someone drinking all of his booze in talking to his wife after he had gone down earlier in the week with another girl. He had taken another woman down (cheating) on like tuesday after filling up his tanks on the previous weekend. When he and his wife went down the following week (after cheating) they had a half of tank. His wife saw the gauges and said someone must have stole their gas. He went along with the story and never did it again. AHHHHHHH the trouble infidility causes even with boating.

Are you suggesting something else happened here?
