The storm that blew through early Monday morning ripped the floating pier away. The 20 or so boats, along with the pier floated a couple hundred yards until it grounded itself up against the highway.

Looks like some pretty shoddy "construction" to me.
That thing wouldn't have lasted through a decent Florida thunderstorm, like we had this morning, as a matter of fact.

Don't they have building codes for those things, or can they just shove some steel pipes down into the mud?

:huh: duno but i'm sure there must be some kind of code for the size and the depth of the mud that they go into...
 
Up here in MD I know that they hammer those pylons at least 10 ft into the mud because I've watched them put an 18ft pole into 3ft of water with about 5 ft sticking up out of the water.
