I'm Chip Schnarel. I just joined this forum based on a friend's recommendation! I'm in the Pacific Northwest and use my 1986 Sea Ray 390 EC for cruising and partying.
I've had my Sea Ray for about four years now. She definitely gets used, but she's also a project boat. The refit so far has included blister repair, bottom sealing, engine work, new galley appliances (refer, microwave), new fresh water tank & pump, new carpet, new seating upholstery in cockpit and salon, new canvas and more. The interior is from that period where the style was teak veneer which is one of the reasons why I chose her. Still to do; new helm instruments, chart plotter and radar.
The boat is powered by its original Crusader 350 (454 cu in) gas engines and velvet drive transmissions. The engines have about 700 total hours on them, 400 of which I have put on. She wasn't getting full RPMs so her props have been repitched to 19x17. With that change she'll do about 28.5 kts at 4400 WOT RPM.
The boat is all electric (stove, heat, hot water) powered by an 8kw Westerbeke genset. No inverters right now.
For the most part everything works, though I do have a few issues that I'm hoping you folks can help me with. I'll get to those in other posts. In the mean time I'm looking forward to meeting folks, poking around here, learning new things and generally enjoying the camaraderie of other Sea Ray owners.
