i'm usually back in before dark but on the few occasions i have been out late i cruise at pretty much no wake speed. no more than about 7-8 mph but have seen a few cruising on plane in the dark. this is on the Ohio river with barges, tugboats, and bouys all around. one night i hit something coming back from a fireworks show. log or something. wasn't a bouy cause i was nowhere near any of them at the time but i dropped to neutral instantly and waited a few seconds before throttling back up. no damage done. if i had been on plane i'm sure i would have at least bent a prop

Man, I was in THICK fog Sunday afternoon coming into Sheboygan. Creeping at minimum speed. I literally had to use my radar and GPS to find the river entrance and avoid 2 fishing boats. Luckily they responded to my horn each time so I had another frame of reference. Entrance is about 500ft wide, and I couldn't see either side. But at speed at night (with no radar)??? How does one do this???
