That is because things have been going well and 25 years of problems have been getting eliminated systematically and properly.

By the weekend I should have both engines HEI and all new white face gauges and switches.

Now we are getting into the tuning and prettying up of the old COW~.
A hint or sneak peek of things to come.

She will be perty:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Heather,
Glad to hear all is going well , what type of wood are you using for the dash - it looks good and I have to do mine soon.

Nice looking gauges- but automotive, no?

Will they take a dousing from a hose?

Yes the tacks are, but it's because of the HEI system.
I sealed the lenses and bezels, they would leak if left alone.
All the others are cheep but nice looking Teleflex from Great Lakes skipper off E-bay.

Red Oak.

That's an approved marine distributor?

Heather,
On the Red Oak - what thickness is it?
and did you drill out all the gauge holes and the arch
at the bottom - or was it purchased as is?
if so where did you buy it from?

No I made it and hole sawed them. I got the red oak at a the Home Depot it's 1/4" thick.

They go into the cat food. Screech is 15 and had some teeth pulled.

But there are others on this site alone that they may have a lot to do with:smt043!

Heather,

That's a heck of a good distributor, but it might not be appropriate for an enclosed boat engine compartment.

Henry

True, But there are a lot of go-fast boats out there with them I have seen. For the most part the caps are well sealed on most all distributors. It has more to do with the weights freezing up from being in a moist environment. It's what was wrong with my old points type. This model was recommended by a performance marine engine shop because of it's all copper electrical components and it's billet aluminum, it tends to be stronger and less likely to seize into the manifold over the years " Or so he tells me".. I have it on one engine as of 2 weeks ago and made a huge HUGE! difference in the performance, mileage and starting ease of that 1 engine. I think a car starter or alternator would be much more of a fire danger setting so low in the the bilge where the vapor tends to build up.

However, your advice is noted and taken under personal choice advisement.

How u operating the vacum advance on the dist?

This model is a duel action. centrifugal or vacuum advanced. I am running them as the original points types were, and that's centrifugal. How ever, I think a vacuum advance is more responsive, there is no port on the stock set up Mercruiser 228 for a manifold vacuum port.

you mean "dust"?

Yep,,, we are installing central vacuum systems on the boats.

LOL If I had that big pretty yacht you have Gary, I think I would need a maid and staff just to maintain it. Hope your toe is better. Looks like it hurt!
