xtreme forced air bilge heaters? Pros/Cons?

I have one of the large size and I like it so far. I would recommend the new "quick" release backplate in case you need to remove it. I plan to add that soon. No complaints so far. http://www.xtremeheaters.com/bracket

Space was an issue for me so the Boat Safe heater was not an option I considered. My friend with a 340 has the Boat Safe heater and he likes it. He has plenty of room though as do you so I am sure either will work.

I have an xtreme and like it. Mine is the large model. It fits on top of the step attached to my transmission perfectly - then I remove it in the spring. I run the cord through the access panel into the bilge. Boemarine.com is a great source and he runs this site.

I bought the small Xtreme heater last March from Jim (BOE Marine) and his price the the lowest I could find and obviously the service is top notch.

I had the middle sized one in the 240SD and worked great!

I use one in my 370 and it has proven itself. I bought an indoor/outdoor thermometer and placed the outdoor probe in the lowest part of my bilge away from the heater to record the temps. It never got below 38 degrees after several days in the teens and nights near zero last winter.( I do cover my vents also.)

OK so what is wrong with this at $44?

I have the large Xtreme heater and the thermostat died (its about 10 years old). I pulled that and wired it directly so it stays on all the time... I plug it into a thermo plug that goes on at 35 and off at 45. That plug is located outside the engine bay. (no sparks). So it still does the job...

BTW, I also cover the engine bay vents to keep a little more heat in the bay...

You might want to consider and oil pan heater as the engine stays nice and warm and radiants heat through out the entire engine compartment. No mositure or condensation as well from a cold engine or any of the other metals within the area for that much as well.

Thanks for all the input! I'm still debating whether to go with oil pan heaters or an xtreme heater? Again, Thanks.. Ricky
