Hi All,
Has anyone done a Wye island circumnavigation? Going to be in Wye river this weekend and it appears as though you can go all the way around Wye Island. Supposed to be a nice journey IF you can get under Wye Narrows Bridge. I have seen reports of 10 foot clearance and also 10'8" clearance.

Has anyone done this trip or tried going under the bridge? Any info on clearance and depths around the island would be great. Most of what I have seen is from articles about the area... nothing official. :smt100

As it stands I think I'm on the border of being able to clear. Per SR specs, I'm 9'5" to the top of the arch, plus 6" pedestal mount, and 9.25" Garmin dome. If it's 10'8 I may clear depending on the tide at the time we try. Otherwise I'm hosed.

Thanks
James

Hi Jim, Went all the way around in a 24' Four Winns 245 Vista, say back arond 91 or so. Remember depths being between 6' - 10 or 12' depending on the area of the river. We had no radar arch so we got under the bridge no problem. Don't recall the clearance though as it related to our boat, I don't remember having to lower antenna's or anything, but that doesn't mean we didn't. It was a nice trip around there, I do remember that. Hey give it a shot, worst case you have to turn around at the bridge. I think we are going to be at the Horse Farm behind Gibson Island this weekend.

Thanks. That's kind of what I figure. I think I'm borderline able to make it under as long as its low(er) tide. We'll see. Worst that can happen is we turn around. Any recommendations on going the north west part of the loop or south east part.... In case I can only go half way? Which is the better half?

I have been around Wye island several times. Water depth is not an issue. Is is a great cruise and you will be almost by yourself.

I looked at Active Captain and it shows bridge clearance at 10 feet. On my boat it is a non-issue so sorry I cannot comment on height.

If you cannot make it under bridge turn around and do both halves. If can only one half do south side more isolated.

Have fun!
