Hey all!

First off, let me introduce myself...my name is Matt, and my wife and I just purchased a 96 Sundancer 270.

I am having a heck of a time, though, finding a new or used cockpit cover. Any one have one, or know where I can get one?

Thanks!

Hello and welcome. try http://www.greatlakesboattops.com/ they make sea rays covers or have one made locally. If you have never priced boat covers/canvas get ready for a little sticker shock.

Thanks so much! Emailed them, and got a super quick response. Just a couple days until I get to pick the boat up, and gettin' excited. Thanks for your help!!

Matt,

This is the first complaint I have seen on the board about Great Lakes Boat Top; could you go into a little more detail on what exactly went wrong during the purchase. I have never seen anything but positive things about the company on the board, sorry to hear about your trouble.

I am ordering a cover from Great Lakes tomorrow and they have been great. I tried to order the front glass last week but I was missing a number on my bimini tag and they insisted that I get the number so no mistake was made.

I was very happy there was no guessing going on. Sorry you had a bad experience.

Ok... so here's my story with Great Lakes Boat Tops. Take it for what it's worth. Bottom line, I still have a $400 cover that is not a fit. Note the dates and time lapsed!
On or around 5/23/07, I began the process, via internet, to order a new cover for our boat. By 6/14/07 I had confirmed this order. On 6/21/07 Great Lakes inquired if this cover was for use with a camper top. I mistakenly replied that it was and the order proceeded. On 6/29/07 I received the cover and discovered that my boat does not have a camper top but does, however have hardware for a Bimini top, which is different. There are two “cut outs” located on the back half of the cover for the camper hardware which my boat does not have. I immediately notified Great Lakes of this problem, requesting a return authorization and replacement cover that does not have these cut outs.
On 7/6/07 and again on 7/18/07 I was told to await a decision by the customer service supervisor, culminating on 8/1/07 in not being allowed to return or exchange the cover. These additional holes will allow rainwater and debris to enter the boat, thus defeating the purpose having a cover.
Great Lakes advertises a 100% guarantee that states in part “Will completely satisfy you with the quality and construction. You can count on all of the above or else we'll replace the boat top or enclosure, or give you your money back.”
This is still in dispute with the credit card co. but I really don't expect to hear a positive response.
As I stated before, the quality is fine, the "fit and finish" is not.
I will end up taking this new cover to a canvas shop and having the holes filled in... or maybe sell it here?
