Have the boat out for a bottom job and got a call that the port strut and shaft were bent. They were pulled for inspection. The shaft," It is in real bad shape and needs to be replaced" and "your strut has electrolysis and is very dangerous and needs to be replaced".

Anyone have one or both available or know of a place in the Tampa area that may have them?

I have a quote from the boat yard, for t
he shaft and coupling $560.00 and a manufactured new strut in stainless steel for $790.00.

Thanks for your time responding in advance.

Don't know about places to have service done, but the idea of a stainless strut caught my attention. I've heard the best material for struts is Nibral, and don't believe I've seen stainless used for this application. I would do some research on this before going ahead. Same thing for prop shafts.....some stainless steels have superior strength and are ideal for this application. Others may not be as suitable.

Thanks, sbw1. I agree with you on the SS strut. I had visions of hitting something and it ripping itself, prop and shaft out in "one swelled fwoop" and everything sitting on the bottom with the strut in one undamaged piece.

Not sure if it is the correct part -- but Flounder Pounder Marine has a new 30 weekender strut on their website. I forget the price but I know it was less than $790.

Yes checked F.P. ,they have a 3 week lead time . Would cost more in boat yard fee's than the strut costs. Everyone I called around the Tampa area would have to order it, with a 3 week lead.
