Hey every one.
Just joined your club. I hope everyone has a safe & happy new year.
I have been around boats most of my life.I recently purchased a 1987 Pachanga w/ 454 330 hp. been trying to indentify the engine through the serial number. no luck.
#8786688 off tag by starter. does any one have know any web sites that might help

Welcome to the site. I did a couple of searches on the number with no luck. Does the engine have any other identifiers? What type of carb does it have? From the chart at this link it looks like several 454s were offered in the late 80's but it may help some.

Can't find any other numbers
The numbers I have are off Mercury Marine tag.
I want to idenify the engine, I'm pulling it out to freshen it up a bit.
I have 14 years experience as a mercury mechanic, back in the late 70's but the tech
has changed a lot since then. I need to re educate my self. I want to bring the hp up to around 400. which should get me into the 70mph range. now I running in the very low 60's. thank you again Travis. I'm Wes
