Would it be o.k. to replace the 1983 vintage seats with new 2007 searay seats? or is this sacreligious? I'm concerned that the cost of repair will be near that of replacement. Any advice?

thank you!

Only that you may wish you had done some additional work to other cockpit decor items. Will the new seats make the old stuff look REALLY OLD? Sometimes it's best to stay with the original design so it blends in better.

Poseiden will be pissed!!! Just kidding, I would have to agree with sbw1. It might make the boat interior look a bit odd, but since you are obviously being very practical in fixing the boat up in the first place, aesthetics may not matter as much as the practical use. Good luck!

Thank you for your responses.

Now I have posieden to worry about. I only thought about Davey Jones. Recently read that Sir Issac Newton is now involved. This boating stuff is way too complicated!

I guess I should have explained my delemma a little better.

First, the vinyl is not in that bad of shape. A mar here/there, dirty, couple of "SeaRay" logos missing. One spot that can be hand stitched back together.

Second, the padding/webbing have seen better days. Webbing is basically useless.

Third, the wood on one of the seats needs to be replaced, as it is beyond "Get Rot".

I would like it to look as original as possible, but not break the bank.

I didn't think of new vinyl standing out that much, and is a valid point.

Question is what is out there that can repair the few imperfections in the vinyl? Is it hard to work with?

Also, I noticed that I have a cut in the window of my back canvas. Is there a product out there that can fix it?

Thank you for your responses.

Vinyl is easy to repair. Tears and holes can be made invisible. Call the service department of a car dealership near your home and find out who repairs seats for them. Call that person. It costs about $100 to have a handfulll of dings fixed.
