Worry about the attacks in Mumbai?

Bring all troops home from every corner of the world, close all military bases.

Let someone else sort things out for a while.

The end.

I think I'll take the Obama approach..... let's have them over for a chitchat.

I'll be spending three nights in Mumbai later in December, I don't think I'll be leaving my hotel room much....

Bill, you do understand that these people want to kill you, right? They don't care if you are man, women or child, they want westerners dead, period, end of story. If we pull back the military, do you really think that will change anything? They will come here and commit acts of terrorisim on our soil. Personally, I'd rather keep them fighting and engaged over there.[/quote]

Amen to that!!

Rhetoric. Plain and simple. Engaging them over there does not keep them from here, it gives them something to do over there.

No matter what, they barely have the means to do anything here at this point thus WHY they attack over there.

Dont you believe if they possibly COULD hit us on our own soil at any time, they WOULD? Makes more sense to come blow up Grand Central to make a statement and "hurt" us than to blow up the Taj.

Just a thought.

They can and have hit us on our own soil, and are doing so now. (cyber attacks) They will hit us here again, but by keeping them busy elsewhere, it is buying us time. I guess we will have to agree to disagree on this one, but realize that to say that we cannot be hit here is foolhardy and very naive.

911 was a fluke. We were completely naive before then, and didnt realize or perhaps thought too much of ourselves that it couldnt happen to us as it does everywhere else in the world. Lesson learned, I hope. As it stands, I feel confident that to hit us would be very difficult at this point, as long as we are vigilant. Perhaps bringing the boys (and girls) home would secure our borders and transient points even better?

Could it be that they want to kill us because we are acting as an imperial nation on their soil continually and trying to force our beliefs on them at all? Perhaps our duties as the world's police should be over?

I dont know...if France came over here and tried forcing us to adhere to their governmental and social beliefs, I just might be called a radical when I try to fight back.

Point of view. Everyone has one, even the ones we consider less than human.

On a board where it seems half of the people here are in the military, have been in the military, or have a child in the military, I dont expect to make any headway.

Oh absolutely I do, but do you believe if we were not over there ready to blow their heads off as soon as they were brave enough to leave the cave where they are hiding they would not be training and plotting to do so?? If they “barely have the means” it is only because of our brave troops over there!

We put our heads in the sand before and made believe we were safe, twice if my history is correct. Take the fight to their soil and keep them busy. This is a war and there is nothing “plain and simple” about it, one that we may not see the end of. These people hate us and others to the extend they are ready to blow themselves up for it. How can you reason this into a peace?

Be careful what you ask for. That’s the end of my rant.

(Just my small contribution to the “Holding Tank”)

The more we fight, the more enemies we make.

Perhaps the vicious circle needs to end at some point? I dont think we ever left anyone alone in that region for a very long time. Seems to me occupying that area for the years up to 911 didnt seem to help much.

bet its not!

And where would we be without these great Americans?

How are we supposed to do business around the world if we stay home?

Does war make one great? I love Yoda.

I dont have all of the answers, just throwing out what if's. We've tried the path we are on for a while now and things arent getting any better. What if we tried something else?

you don't think we had our guard down on 9/11?

Bill Clinton's withdrawl in Somolia was because he let polls determine military action. Americans today can't stomach any adversity.

We didnt "have our guard down", we had this insane belief that no one could possibly come here to destroy us because we were tying them up around the world, and no one would dare try anything of such magnitude while we could keep them busy. Although not officially at war, we had troops all over the world "protecting" us for decades. So I repeat...having troops everywhere occupying nations and quelling them does little to no good in protecting our borders here.

Somalia was another example of us policing the world, imo. Another example of warlords going to war as they have for thousands of years before we even came over on the Mayflower.

The two world wars were necessary, and thats about it as far as I can see, but I am a peacenik. Debating this is going to be a psychotic merry go round where everyone just gets dizzy.

Now those Somalian freaks run around the Indian Ocean pirating every ship the can catch.
