Here's an interesting side bar. After the Japanese decimated our
fleet in Pearl Harbor Dec 7, 1941, they could have sent their troop
ships and carriers directly to California to finish what they started.

The prediction from our Chief of Staff was we would not be able to
stop a massive invasion until they reached the River. Remember, we
had a 2 million man army and war ships....all fighting the Germans.
So, why did they not invade?

After the war, the remaining Japanese generals and admirals were
asked that question. Their answer....they knew that almost every
home had guns and the Americans knew how to use them.
The world's largest army... America's hunters!
I had never thought about this....
A blogger added up the deer license sales in just a handful of
states and arrived at a striking conclusion:
There were over 600,000 hunters this season in the state of Wisconsin.

Over the last several months, Wisconsin's hunters became the eighth
largest army in the world.
More men under arms than in Iran.
More than in France and Germany combined.
These men deployed to the woods of a single American state to hunt
with firearms, and no one was killed.
That number pales in comparison to the 750,000 who hunted the woods
of Pennsylvania and Michigan's 700,000 hunters, all of whom have now
returned home safely.
Toss in a quarter million hunters in West Virginia and it literally
establishes the fact that the hunters of those four states alone
would comprise the largest army in the world. The point?
America will forever be safe from foreign invasion with that kind of
home-grown firepower.
Hunting -- it's not just a way to fill the freezer. It's a matter of
national security.
 
Not to confuse the issue with facts, but the US army was not fighting Germany on 12/7/41. Not to discount the impact of an armed rural populace, but keeping a foreign army in California supplied all the way from Japan also would not have been a minor task.

An armed and angry population is something not to be trifled with -> certainly it was a factor in the US decisions regarding invading Japan in 1945.
 
That is all true but here's more info. 1 out of every 10 guns in a home is now an AR-15. The civilian platform has become one of the nations best sellers for hunting and target shooting. If you own one AR....most shooters purchase another. I have one for each member of my family and shoot another in competition out to 600 meters with open sights. The US also has a large fraterity of long range shooters.....500 to 1,000yds and they compete monthly. .308, 300WSM/300Win Mag and larger to .50 caliber. Hunters are a percentage of the armed America. Gun sales to women have also increased and they hunt also! I would estimate gun ownership has increased 10 fold since WWII if not more thanks to the Democratic attack of gun owners rights here. Bill Clinton sold more guns than any other President in history and our current leadership will do the same if elected for a second term, Mike.

Love my Colt L.E.O's..ALL equipped with Trijicon Acogs with Red Dot Docters! Very fun! For long range fun my H&K 91 with Swarovski 1k yard sniper is very smooth! Ready for the zombie invasion...lol

IMHO if there's an "invasion" it won't be in the form of an invasion but rather an armed revolution, and it won't be people who come from another country to invade us, it will be people who came from another country and live here now. If you don't believe this, check your local Craigslist (or just about any city across the country) in the "Rants and Raves" section. Look for the racist posts from one race vs another. It's a bit scary to think that people who are that racist live in our cities and towns.

If we do have armed revolt and rioting, it will be by people who live not too far from where you and I live, but their lifestyle is vastly different from yours and mine. It will be "class warfare" and it's already starting with the Occupy Wall Street crowd. They're vary inarticulate about what goals they're trying to attain, and the only thing I've heard them talk about is "The 1% have it all and we want our share of it."

Well guess what....you and I own boats, probably drive nice cars and live in nice neighborhoods. We're the ones that class warfare rioters will be coming after. I hope it never comes to that, but our current gubmint sure seems to be making class warfare one of their top programs.

That is my very definition of "zombie invasion" :wink: I have worked/working too hard for what I have. I have a Constitutional right and duty to protect it! Just sayin..
 
The US has always had a very mixed population of races and backgounds but if you chose to live here, you learned English and were productive/worked. We now have a whole gereration of people from all races and some legal and some not legal wanting the American Dream without working for it.....a trophy for all mentality. We also have a large number of drug users and sellers plus gangs from all races and countries living here also. These numbers are growing more in the cities but are going rural. Our Forest Rangers here in PA now carry firearms to protect themselves from these new residents in our woods cooking drugs. When 50% do not pay taxes...we have a problem. I live in a rural area and the city mentality has come to our town. I'm not sure how to cutoff all the entitlements but if it happens, they'll come looking to take what you have. It's a shame but it will be lock & load time. The real problem is you can't go to work and protect your home at the same time. It's just a snowball that is growing out of control and picking up speed. People will start out lashing verbally and it will sound racist but a duck is a duck and a spade a spade. We all choose our position in society. Two groups growing at rapid rates are Mexicans and Muslims. The Mexican drug trade will kill anyone in their way and radical Muslims hate you because you're not Muslim and they are told to kill the Infidel. Well I don't do drugs or pray to Allah so I'm a target without offending anyone yet. I will say Merry Christmas to all and when they start shooting....I'll have to shoot back with superior firepower and skill with a tad of forgiveness to small children. Is this nuts or what! There is a new enemy out there and they are here, Mike.
 
Cowboys and Muslims...I think you can get the Mexicans in line, but Muslims...not going to happen :( and no, I'm not racist, but I'm not stupid!

My Glock 27 fits very nice on a towel in the microwave in the cabin!
 
I'm a G21 guy but carry my G27 the most. They just don't rust and mine always work, Mike.

This is somewhat off topic but this thread reminded of a quote from Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf after the first Iraq Invasion and I thought you all might enjoy it also.
Yesterday at the beginning of the ground war Iraq had the fourth largest army in the world. Today they have the second largest army in Iraq
