Hi Folks,

I'm gearing conflicting advice as to the hull construction of the 215 EC. Is there any wood in the hull? I found this growing in the engine compartment of my boat and am concerned that this may be due to rotten wood. I removed whatever this is a few weeks ago and it hasn't regrown. It was in the 2 drain holes between the engine compartment and the fuel tank compartment.

Thanks

Rob

The hull does not have wood. However certain bulkheads or reinforces areas will have marine plywood inside. That bulkhead likely does, as well. Whether that growth breached the gelcoat or not... you'll have to investigate. If you keep the bilge cleaner and dryer you will greatly reduce (and likely eliminate) stuff like this. Under normal circumstances, even with a wood core, this should not happen. Fix the root cause and the problem will never come back -- see what I did there? "root" :)

Thanks Dennis, I will give the bilge a good clean and keep an eye on it. I can see how an issue like this could mushroom ;)

Nice comeback :)

FYI, there may only be a minimal amount of glass or gel "inside" the edge of the holes.

Yes I did wonder about the gel coat around the holes. The boat is dry stacked, when I get a chance I'll clean it out and take a closer look (all out of fungus jokes)
