I have a 2011 175 Searar with a 3L mercuiser.Starts perfectly, then after warming it up...then cuts out ,,,and wont start again until the next day ..Mechanic has gone through everything and cannot find a problem....He says everything seems to be working...Has anyone had such a problem?? the motor has only done 20hours.

i'm not familiar with your engine but if it has a single ingnition coil that provides spark to all of the spark plugs then you may have a defective coil...they are known to give symptoms just as you describe...they will allow the engine to run fine for a while until the coil heats up and then the coil will cut the spark off and the engine will die and won't start again until the coil has a chance to cool down...next time the engine shuts off check to see if you have spark to the spark plugs as someone tries to start the engine...

if you do have spark during the 'shut down period' then check to see if you have fuel being supplied to the combustion chamber in the cylinder head...chances are good that either the ignition spark or the fuel supply is getting interrupted for some reason....you (or your mechanic) just have to troubleshoot to find out which element is missing and why it is missing...

good luck...

I found this on another forum:

Vapor lock is caused by the heat in the engine cover that is so hot it causes the fuel to boil in the line. That assumes that you are using regular fuel that has ethanol like most gas stations have. If your using marine fuel this should not be the problem If you temperature is hot enough in the engine cover it will cause the fuel to get to hot and cause a vapor lock. If you lift the cover before you stop and blow air in the engine well and run the engine at idle speed for about 3 to 5 minutes before you shut it off and let it sit for awhile 1 hour or more and see if it start up. If it does that might be your problem.

A good place to start as stated above is to check for spark and fuel first an easy to use spark tester will show if your getting spark here is a link to one you can also buy on ebay. This tool eliminates any chance of fire from a spark.

I would eliminate spark from the coil first sounds like when it warms up something is expanding.
Then start looking at fuel issues eliminate one thing at a time.
Try a new mechanic if he can't find any problems you should be able to find plenty of troubleshooting sights for fuel systems.

Mondie - your engine should still be under warranty, by the way.
