I was sitting in the cockpit last weekend and watch the 50' sailboat next to me come into his slip. He was doing a lot of shifting, for & rev, for & rev. He looked good on his first try, should have kept going, but he didn't and got more and more out of control.

At one point a woman was able to leap to the dock, standing with her arms out ready to catch but the guy on the boat holding the line didn't throw it to her. Now the sailboat stern is getting near hitting me. The sail boat captain was starting to freak, one hand on his manbun 'OH MY GOD', but he hit forward again, moved away from my boat and ran into the dock pedestal, laid it out flat on the dock.

At this point I went over to help because Captain Manbun ain't done shifting. I holler to the sailor on the boat, 'throw her the line' and he did...and then he threw her another one. She is now standing on the dock, one line in each hand and doesn't know what to do with them. She's bent forward at the waist trying to pull, there is a little wind that's stronger and she's going to be pulled in.

There's another fella on the bow, I holler to him to throw me that line. It snagged on his fanny pack thingy but enough was launched for me to grab. As luck had it the Captain was going into reverse again as I got the bow line on a cleat. The boat moved aside the dock nicely and a sailor leapt off the boat to give the woman some help.

They all gathered on the dock near the poor pedestal. They were all smiles, some hugs, and congratulating each other on another awesome adventure.

They explained to me that they've never owned a boat, they just rent them, they're from 'The Cities' ya' know. They just love coming up to Lake Superior to sail.

You’re a good man Woody. They are in a slip and safe. So is YOUR boat and all other near that renters slip.

Several years ago we had an older guy come into the slip, and "gun" it. Hit the neigboring boat, put a nice gash, and then took out the dock pedistal. Clearly an error in hitting the gas. I think he quit boating after that.

Woody,

Where is the video? You could have made a fortune on YouTube!

Anyway...the soyboy's and girls probably need to add another $2k to the boat charter to fix the pedestal.

About 3yrs ago I had another experience with the part time sailors while at the marina next door. I wasn't there to witness it, luckily someone else took pics and told me about it.

I was talking to another power boater about the incident and he said 'you aren't going to believe this but'...this summer he had seen someone fall off a sailboat into the water on 3 different occasions while docking...more part time sailors:rolleyes:

@Woody …. In that pic …I don’t like your mast to diesel ratio… it’s like trying to find a girl friend in an all boys school…. You are going to have to compromise :) ….. and calling out his man bun and Fanny pack isn’t going to work

Went to Fleet Week in SF Bay and I am now thinking sailboats are the Prius of the water.
This idiot was starboard of the cargo ship and ship was on the horns til he lost sight of the sail boat then held the horn and sail guy instead of turning away crosses right in front of the cargo ship.

The experienced sailors make it look really easy. Nice having a huge rudder mid ship. The rookies though are fun to watch as long as they are not near 'our' boats. There is something "special" about sailors

Yup, I try to steer clear of sailors....even on the docks at my marina. No need to get into political discussion while at the boat.

Ha 'Special';)...one time at a small marina I wanted to use the bathroom/shower, a sailboat guy stopped me from going in, he said he was next but he was waiting for his buddy to get there because 'they shared soap'.

Probably not the only thing they share. Would have been funny to ask him who drops the soap first....:D

Not that there's anything wrong with that...
