My mechanic and I are scratching our heads. My port side wiper motor wasn't working. We concluded (we think) that I needed a new wiper control module. I bought one to the tune of $285.!:smt089 Finally got power to the port wiper motor. The wiper motor is part #1756219, which my research shows me is the correct motor for the port side. Problem is, when it parks, it does so in the middle of the windshield while the starboard wiper parks correctly (at the bottom of the windshield in the midline of the boat). My mechanic said its the wrong motor, that it belongs on the starboard side. Can't be as the starboard motor is part number 1756213. Please, any suggestions:huh: Someone suggested you can change the arm on the motor to park the wiper in a different position, but we can't seem to figure out how.

Thanks,
Mark

Sounds like the wiper arm needs to be adjusted. Let the motor come to its stopping point, remove the arm and position the arm like you want it, and reattach the arm.

Worth a try.

Bennett, thanks for your reply. I thought about that, but woukdnt that cause the wiper to swipe down across the fiberglass once it's turned on?

For what i know...the motor has a certain "range of motion"-likely somewhere between 90-180*. When properly mounted, the correct motor should stop/reverse at the correct points. Adjusting the wiper arm to one of these "points" should fix it. Two things...1). Make sure it is wired correctly, and 2) Make sure it is mounted correctly.

See if this thread is any help.

Thanks, Bennett. I saw that post. The wiring might be one of the issues. My mechanic added a ground to the body of the motor. Stated the "ground was missing" I read somewhere that grounding may make a difference to where it parks. very confusing and frustrating for something that will get little use, by my type A personality has to have it right and fixed. I was hoping there was someone on the sight that might have gone thru this.

Remove the "missing but since added" ground & try it. Some wiper motors are in fact grounded differently & can start doing strange things if not done right.
Went through this with my old Buick. Factory shipped it with wipers that stopped at the base of the windshield. I added the OEM factory option where they parked below the hood line. Different motor, linkage, arms, windshield trim & intermediate harness. Grounding was completely different on the two systems.
