can anyone tell if using marine/rv anti freeze in the fresh water tank is ok?

That is how I winterize my RV and boat. Just make sure you run enough fresh water through the system to flush it out when you dewinterize

It is OK to use the pink antifreeze. But it's also better to just bypass the tank if you can. Empty your tank first. Then disconnect the hose leading to the water pump and put that into the antifreeze bottle. Now winterize the lines and faucets, and leave your tank empty over winter. When you fill in the spring, it will push out the pink in the lines and faucets and you're good to go.

If you have access to a compressor you can use air to do the same thing, you just have to break the line AFTER the pump and then blow the lines out. The hot water tank has to be drained and the in/out lines connected. It's tough the first year, but after you have the parts it's a WHOLE lot easier than getting rid of the mint RV taste in the Spring! RV antifreeze is perfect for the toilet and holding tank.

To answer your question – using RV antifreeze will not cause damage to the fresh water system.

The reason to not do it is its difficult to get it back out. Come spring you fill the tank with fresh water, empty via turning on a faucet, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat and you can still smell and taste the stuff.

If, however, you don’t drink from your fresh water system, only use it for other things like flushing the head, washing your hands, washing the dishes, rinsing off on the swim platform, then its not a issue.

I put antifreeze in my freshwater tank.

We have a 40 gallon fresh water tank and add 6-8 gallons of the pink antifreeze each winter, open all the lines for a minute or two, and have never had an issue. We have to do a lot of flushing in the spring but we do not drink the tank water anyway. We also poor a gallon down the head into the holding tank.
