I followed the owners maual and removed the 4 blue plugs 1 on the tstat housing 2 on the seawater pump and 1 on the lower front. Is there any petcocks on the sides of the block? The manual does not show any but I thought there would be like my older 350 merc.

thanks

Sort of. The lower front plug that you pulled is part of the "quick drain" system. If you take a closer look at it, you will see small hoses running to the block and the manifolds, in the same position as your older engine. In this case, it's a quick-connect fitting at the block/manifolds. The idea of this new system is great, but there is one downfall. If one of those small hoses (or the fitting at the block/manifold) gets plugged, you would never know it. I still like to remove the fittings at the block/manifold after doing the quick drain thing as poke the holes to make sure they're clear.

You can still fill the block, however, with AF the same way by pouring the AF in through the hoses at the t-stat housing. Nothing changes there. Fogging is done differently (assuming you had a carb'd engine, before), though.

I always put an air compressor blower nozzle into the lower drain, and you can hear air circulating throughout the entire engine. It makes me feel better. Don't forget the big hose coming off the water pump towards the starboard side. It can hold more than a cup of water.
