I have a question for the group.

I am currently shopping for a larger boat to join the group out on Lake Michigan. Currently thinking a 400DA might be in my future.

I live in the NW suburbs of Chicago and I am planning on locating the boat up at Northpoint Marina in Winthrop Harbor. My question for the local group is where do you store your boat for the winter and what does it cost? Heated? Etc.

Thanks!

I am at Prairie Harbor Yacht Club which is about 1/4 mile North of Northpoint Marina and is much nicer for not much more money. I plan to store my boat with Skipper Bud's there in one of their heated storage buildings for a bit over $3,700 for my 320. Cheaper heated storage is available on the Michigan side but it's 60 miles of gas each was that will offset some of the savings. I paid about the same for heated storage at Harborside Marina in Wilmington Il this past winter. Skipper Bud's has cheaper heated storage in Zion and Lake Geneva. The latter cost me around $2,400 the previous winter when I bought the boat from their Round Lake store.

The last two years I stored outside in Hammond for $1800. No frills (no winterization, shrink wrap, etc). This year I plan on going to Skyway Yacht Works for less, with winterization (2 engines) included (outdoor storage).

++1 on Skyway!
Have stored there inside and out 3 of the last 5 years.
Little bit more expensive inside than others, but worth it.
Outside this past season and good shrinkwrap people they bring in.
Great people and great staff!

Steve, John and Jacquie are great!

Scott I will bring your case when I come visit....

Wow, I hope your prices don't find their way north. I pay CDN $3,900 per year which includes slip with power/water (no extra charges for either), free pump outs (at the slip in August) spring launch and fall haul out w/ hull pressure wash, blocking and on site outside storage. Shrink wrap is about $1,000 on top of that. Our marina is not fancy, but nice (not a yacht club). Heated pool, on site competent mechanics, canvas guy and fibreglass/structural repair shop. We do however pay $1.50/litre for gasoline (x4 to get to $6.00/USgallon) so that's about $1,300 per fill-up.

We store in a very clean indoor heated facility Maritime, in Port Washington, Wi. We have access all winter. Haul out and splash are extra 700.00.

We dry stack at the Skipper Buds Service Facility in Milwaukee and when I priced dry stack (12 month contract that includes heated winter storage), the Milwaukee facility was less expensive than the Winthrop Harbor facility for the exact same service. It is possible that the same would be try of heated inside storage on the floor of one of the storage buildings. Melanie at the Skipper Buds Service Center (414) 482-0900 would be able to provide specifc answers.
