Hi guys - my boat rests on a lift here in the Seattle area and can do so all year round...the only problem is I'd like to keep it FULLY covered while during the wetter times of the year.

I'm hoping someone has found or can show me there OVER THE RADAR ARCH winter moorage cover for a Sundancer 280? I'd like it to be able to cover FULLY the camper back canvas, radar arch, radar dome, etc... I'd love for the boat to be run-ready (winter canvas up) so I can take it out on nice clear winter days so would prefer it to come off fairly easily, but not so easily that the wind can/will do it for me!

Please post photos if you've found something similar or have a helpful suggestion.

I've scoured the web and found nothing to go over the radar arch, called Great Lakes and they had nothing...ideas??

THANKS in advance!

Try Fisher Boat Covers. However, the interesting part of your question is that you want to keep the camper canvas up. It will likely have to be a custom made cover - as in someone local will have to come to your boat and take measurements.

The other thing to be aware of is that by covering your camper canvas, you will be retaining more moisture (you get a little of that in Seattle, right?) inside the boat (mold, mildew, etc). Moisture that is held in the eisinglass will make it cloudy. It will go away, but not instantly. Also, both the camper canvas and the full cover will wear prematurely as they will rub against each other in the wind. If the full cover touches your eisinglass, it will likely scratch that up pretty good.

As far as being "easy" to take down/put up... well, that's going to end up being a relative term. It's going to be a big (heavy) cover. You may be able to have it made in sections that zipper together.

Sounds like you're a candidate for a covered slip? Or, building a roof over your lift?

Hey Bmann,
Looking into the same here for my 300DA. I planned on taking the camper top down, but otherwise looking for a full mooring cover to go down to the waterline (green hull) to keep the sun off over the winter too. One locak canvas shop is willing to do it, but they're quoting $2900-3500 to make it. Shrink wrap is approx $500 a season down here. They are coming out to give a more final estimate on a cover, so I'll keep you in the loop.

James.

Lazy Daze - Thanks for the thoughts and referral, will pursue it to learn more. I've got the odd NW weather where I need to protect the boat from the rain but also have some great MILD winter days where being able to take off the cover, still have the camper up (ideally) and turn on some heat and go would be great! I stay on top of the potential for mold with two small heaters to keep things dry and mildew free!

Loneranger - that is almost exactly what I would want if I could get my hands on it. I have the perfect climate to test that too! Sign me up!

JimFromMD - shrink wrap would be great IF I wasn't trying to make use of the boat year round. I hate to think what Seattle pricing might be on a custom cover but MAY end up having to go that route...ugh... Do keep me up on how yours prices out!

THANKS for the feedback! Has anyone else found the perfect mild/wet/winter use cover to protect the boat's canvas and keep things cleaner/drier??

That was Lazy Daze suggestion as well... $2k+ it sounds like and I'm still not able to leave the camper back up...

I was looking for a cover last season. The idea of paying $600+ for shrink wrap every year didn't make sense. I found canvas covers very interesting but was also very expensive. In addition it is very heavy. On of the boats in my marina has one and has to have a lift truck unload it from his truck and put it on his fly bridge. I found a poly / vinyl cover that is perfect. It is light weight, durable, well made and was the cost is reasonable (payback is two years). I can handle it by myself. This will be my second year with the cover. The cover was made by H. F. Fisher and sons http://www.hffisherandsons.com/index.php
Frank fisher is great to deal with. Give Frank a call. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.
