Winter Haul Out

I've tested it with a hose. No damage to the boat, I can only assume that Sea Ray neglected to apply sealant to the hull joint. The rub rail acts as a water channel and the water follows it like a highway, right to the lowest spot, which is back by the swim platform.
You are probably right, although the vent runs back there as well. Seems like the vent would offer less resistance to water entering the bilge in any noticeable quantity than a screw hole. Wonder what happens when you put a hose on the vent. This is the one area where water can enter the bilge of my boat. The bilge is always dry when I begin washing and there is a small amount of water when I finish. Not trying to be argumentative but the joint should be the last place to leak since the top deck overlaps the hull.

Vents are good, the sealant needs to be redone, but it is sound. The water could only get in the bilge if you direct the spray upwards, so there is no possible way for rain water to make ingress....interestingly enough, the rub rail is a known deficiency with the 340. Mine is not the first to succumb to this, nor will it be the last. My dealer has done about a dozen 340's in recent years. (Although I'll tackle this one myself, they want a small fortune to do it, due to the time involved.)
It's not just the 340's that do it, here at CSR over the years quite a few different boats had water coming in via the rub rail screws...including my 280DA.

Anybody care to get back to the winter haul out topic originally posted here? Perhaps a thread somewhere else on leaking rub rails is in order?

I got a bit nervous last fall, not lifting on lifting points, rear sling tied off to cleat to prevent slipping, front sling did slip about 2'...... I squawked a bit, this year new spreader and slings.

Seems like everyone had a good season. Not too many complaints about the weather as there have been the past several years. No haul out for us but I will winterize the water and head late Oct-early Nov which will limit how we use the boat. Here's hoping for a winter like last year with temps in the 70s through December and into January. Cooler temps mean I can finally wax the thing and deal with the rest of my own honeydo list.

I'll be pulling Oct 14
Had a great year
On the boat every weekend Fri-Sun
Made more out of harbor overnight trips this year that the past 2 years combined
Helped to see $2.99 a gallon gas for a few weekends!!
Trying to sneak in one more overnighter to
Michigan City or Portage before the end

We had a great summer. We both retired at the end of June. Left Lake St Clair for each reaches north (East Tawas, Presque Isle, Mac City, The Island, Harbor Springs, Charlevoix, Elk Rapids, Traverse City) and got home 30 days later. Beautiful weather and water most of the way. Couldn't have been better.

Now reality sets in and we'll be hauling out around mid-October.

Javenius - not to mention you covered some of the most beautiful cruising grounds these 5 "lakes" have to offer! You can put her away for the winter and look forward to all that next summer has to offer!!

Mine got hauled out on October 4th. Bought her on August 13th and spent every weekend on it except the one weekend I did my 2nd Ironman. Went up to the place where it is being stored last Saturday and spent all day waxing the stern, hull and bow. Still need to wax the cockpit area. That was a job, but damn rewarding - I think I'd rather do another Ironman, haha. I used 3m Restorer and Wax, which worked out very well - my gel coat shined up nicely. I only waxed part of the radar arch - couldn't get to the middle. How do you wax that baby? I'm thinking by ladder?

Winter to do's:
1 - replace all lighting with LED's
2- starting genny is a pain so plan to replace spark plugs, fuel filter and distributor cap. Genny had only 51 hours on it so I'm guessing its never been tuned up. Once running, its fine
3 - clean esinglass
4 - replace fuel filters on engines
5 - replace zincs on trim tabs and stern
6 - starboard engine leaks oil (thinking its the oil sensor) and the engine mount is loose so those need to get addressed
7 - remove old name and put new one on

We pulled ours yesterday. Did a good job of washing it the day before and then ran it into the Travel Lift the next morning at 9:00AM. Power washed the bottom, cleaned the water line with acid and it was in a clean dry building by 10:30. Spent an hour wiping everything down and spraying for spiders and she is ready to polish and wax this January. It was 64, sunny and we had very little wind. I used to do this around the first of November in 45 degrees with rain blowing sideways. Current system is much better. The bubbler goes on the dock on a nice day next week. Used to do that in cold rainy weather also. No more!

We need more Australian boaters on the site to entertain us with their summer to get us through our winter

I'll see what I can do :smt001

I heard someone say yesterday was our hottest day since April - it reached 32 degrees C....not bad for spring :)

Irie, got pulled out this morning for the winter. First year with the 480 SD and couldn't be happier with it.
Already looking forward to next season.
