There's a couple of us heading to Charleston to do some winter boating. We leave from Rivers Edge Marina friday morning. Destination unknown! haha Heading South, maybe Church Creek, Bohicket Creek, Dataw, Beaufort, maybe as far as Hilton Head! We'll see where we end up by what mother nature or randomness brings. Anybody can join at the last minute if they wish.

Please post the locations that you go to.....I am planning on heading down there in April and have never been before so any information would be great. thanks

Mike, when are you leaving? Would love to meet you guys in HHI or Beaufort.

Chris we (Sadler, Beer Bob, and Al on Sadlers boat, Myself and my Dad on my boat) are leaving Rivers Edge Marina about 10am friday, heading South. I'm not sure where we are going to end up, but I'll talk to Sadler and ask him. Maybe he'll chime in here. If I had to guess, I would say Beaufort or HHI for Saturday.
I'll get back to you on this.

jballen1, zboaterctf I'll do my best.

If you guys would like, we are also on facebook. Carolina Boaters. We are pretty active on there and plan trips way in advance. If you feel the notion, you can dream up a trip and post it. Most likely someone will like the idea and it will grow a life of it's own, next thing you know your doing it. Check us out.

jballen1, have you read this thread? This is going to happen end of March beginning of April.

yeah I had read the thread and it sounded like a great trip......Because of school we are not able to leave untill like the 6th of april. We will put in at Castle Hayne and travel down the river past Wilmington to Southport and then head south. We will most likely stop at Barefoot landing for a night but nothing else is planned except to head to Charleston. Going to be out for 10 days and I am counting the days down........Of course there are a pile of projects going on right now with the boats( putting a TV antenna on, installing a windlass)......but we will finish up in plenty of time to go to Jordan lake for a weekend and make sure everything is good prior to April. You guys have a great trip

Well, we had a nice trip, but because of the unpredictable weather we chose to stay close to Charleston. We didn't want to get stuck "away" with heavy weather holding us down. We did make it down to Church Creek for a raft up on the ICW, for friday night, and we ran around the harbor sight seeing. Between the rain squals its was very nice. Temps near 70 degrees.
We hit Shem Creek thursday and saturday night. First night we went to Vickerys, great seafood. The second night, we went to a secluded seafood restraunt that had mind blowing seafood! I am bound by a secrect clause, to not disclose the name of this place. It's rustic and not what you would imagine, but melt in your mouth seafood. I could probably tell you the name, and where it is, but you'd still not be able to find it. That's the only clues I can give. Beat Sadler up for the name, ah he's gonna kill me. haha
Come on Charleston people, if you guess the name, I'll confirm it. lol

Yes, great weekend Mike. Two warm sunny days this time of year is well above average. 3 hour slow cruise down the ICW to Church Creek, and 30 mph cruise back, and we only saw maybe 5 other recreational boaters on the waterway the entire weekend! And that secret seafood place is probably not all that secret to locals (I think it was reviewed by the NYTimes). It's in Mt. Pleasant by the way for anyone wanting to guess. Here's a look at the front door from the parking lot as another hint:

Spent the weekend on our boat and went for a run on Saturday. The excuse was to warm up e tranny fluid to verify the level after replacing the fluid. Stopped by the pump out while we were out and now are ready for our first cruise out of the season this Friday. The weather this week is going to be fantastic (mid-70's) but by Saturday it will be back in the 60's. Looking forward to 3 days of fun wi our club!

Nice to see you out on the boat so early Ken, cool! Come on spring/summer!

Credit Cards??? They have conditioned me to always bring cash over the years. I can't wait to try out my credit card there but will have cash in the back pocket just in case.

I think you either love or hate the place, since their style of cooking is definitely southern and the inverse of healthy, and since the prices are not exactly bargain prices. But you mix in the fairly authentic location with shrimp boats right at the back door, the supposed use of all local fresh seafood, and you have a place with a very alluring quality--if you don't mind the paper plates, cement floor, and plastic chairs.

The Wreck on Shem Creek. Would have been a dead give away if you showed a picture of the red can.
