We have a beer topic so we need a wine topic. No not which wine is better, but will wine freeze and break the bottle?

I seem to have lost a bottle on the boat somewhere. I distinctly remember taking two bottles to the boat last month and only drinking one. I've check every nook and cranny, but can't find it. It's either stolen, we drank it or it's hiding somewhere. We're not big wine drinkers so I usually remember how many bottles we use.

If it's on the boat all winter, in NH where it will reach -5F, will it leak?

wine,beer,booze

anytime i am missing any adult beverage, i ask the kids. :smt018 they always say not me dad.

Brings me back to the chemistry days. I believe wine will not freeze until it gets well below freezing. Unfortunately, I can't give a you a specific degree at which freezing will occur. However, alchohol lowers the freezing point, so the bottle will be very cold but probably not frozen. It's similar to keeping a bottle of vodka in the freezer so that it's always ice cold. Most wines are 12.5% alcohol (give or take), whereas vodka is about 40% alcohol (80 proof).

i left a 1.75 liter bottle of bacardi on the boat all last winter and it didnt freeze. it sustained temperatures well below 20 degrees.

Yes the wine will freeze but at a sustained temp of below freezing for a couple days. How old are the kids? :smt014

We have no kids and there are very few kids on the dock.

I've convinced myself that it's not on-board, there's just not that many places to hide. Where ever it went, I hope it was enjoyed.
