I grew up just up the street from this Marina .... If you look at the Ariel pic of the Marina and the break wall ...all of that used to be land....The government dredged the entire thing to create this Marina..... My grandfather and I along with a lot of other people would fish off the shore of what is now the break wall when St Clair was too rough to take the boat out.
This is just another example of government thinking they know better and in a socialist government they need revenue...as a kid when they closed the park I was devastated ...and to look at this disaster today...and no one is held accountable is a tragedy.

Seems like the projected income for 222 boat slip is only about $1600 per slip. If the average boat is 30ft then that's only about $55 per foot. Seems like that's cheap. At $100 per foot they would about double the revenue. Around here public marinas are getting $135ft up to over $200ft. Go to Cape Cod and it can approach $250ft with waiting lists. BTW Floating docks would be much more desirable.

It is fairly inexpensive...but no amenities other than a restaurant and public bathrooms

Their price for a 60' slip (figuring the cost of the 40' slip and adding $59.25/ft for the additional 20') would be $3561. That's only slightly higher than I currently pay for my 60' slip @$3120.

Renting a slip from a government agency (Port of Kennewick in my case) usually ends up costing less for the slip. In my case, I have a covered slip and water is included but I pay extra for 50A & 30A power.

My marina was built about 10 years ago, has 10' wide main docks and 8' finger piers, all floating. We get a water level fluctuation of about 6'-7' from year to year With the floating docks it's no problem.

I am on Cape Cod and I am at $280ft but I could put an 80ft boat on my slip so that would bring it down to $200. The owner just has a set price for each slip regardless of that you put on it. No amenities other than plenty of parking.

Good for them. I sense a rate hike coming.

The municipal government nor the provincial government of Ontario are socialist and they were also not 30 years ago. If you are referring to our federal government the Liberal minority government, some might call them socialist but they are more a little right of centrist . The fees collected over the past 30byesrs should more than offset the costs . That profit has made the tax burden on the area lower so why not invest further.
I personally wish municipal marinas would give a preferential rate to those local to it whom have paid development costs through their taxes directly. That would be a socialist approach and one I'd be in favour of. Locally where I am slips are dear and prices reflect that with alot of our marine infrastructure eaten up by folks from farther away where wage scales are different. Many living in the artificially inflated economy cant justify spending 10 to 15 percent of their income to enjoy OUR heritage which is attached to the water access
