I have a 2002 Sundancer 340. The windshield has marks that look like water spots that won't wash off - Seems to get worse each year. Any ideas out there?

could it be overspray from spray-on sun screen?....there has been some discussion on here about how some spray sun screens can leave spots on vinyl uphoulstry as well as windows....i believe it is from the solvent used as a carrier in the sprays....some report the spots are difficult to impossible to remove.....i have experienced the spots on my seats from this and no longer allow spray sun screen on my boat....

I had the same issue with a 2000. It was bad when I bought it, and def worse when I sold it. I always thought it was from the salt, although it got rinsed.

Looking for some ideas so it doesn't happen to my new boat.

Spots I've seen have been from two different sources. Mineral deposits and soap residue. Best luck I had getting them off was to spray the glass with CLR, Lime-Away, etc. and rinse and then follow up with glass cleaner. Rain-X does a good job of helping to slow down the buildup in the future.

Try some lime away if this is on the glass and not the isenglass. After you get it good and clean wax your windows.

Put on some rubber gloves and use a product called CLR. Just wet a rag (I use one about the size of a washcloth) and wipe it on liberally. Let it set for a few minutes then hose it off real well, then wash the entire boat area around the windshield and that area of the hull. CLR is death on wax so make sure it doesn't stay on any gelcoat areas.

I had really good luck using Spray 9 Marine on the glass to remove salt spray build up from crabbing last winter make sure to remove any isinglass it will destroy it also if you can haul it out it's toxic to sea life be sure to rinse off it will also remove wax. Our marina has a wash down area for doing this like this.

Do you only see the spots when you a wearing polarized sun glass? I see round circles with polarized glasses that I think are part of the design of the windshield and not from water spots... I just stand and look over the windshield...

There are a number of products designed to remove water spots caused by pollution and industrial fall out. Do a search on windshield water spot removal and you will be directed to many auto detail supply shops that have all sorts of elixers you can try. I used a product called Zud several years ago with great results but is it abrasive and aggressive and unless you are careful, might scratch the windshield. Bottom line...there are lots of products and lots of "claims of success". Pick one or two web sites and use their 800 number to ask for a professional recommendation.

I had to use a razor blade to scrape off the mineral deposits on mine.
Be careful with cleaners, some are hard on the aluminum frame and others that contain hydrofluoric acid can actually etch the glass. Spray nine should not be allowed to dry on glass, it can leave permanet marks. I got that tid bit from my uncle who was a rep. for Knight Chemicals, the makers of Spray Nine. BTW I love Spray Nine and use it alot, just watch the glass.
