Guys, I'm posting from the dark side as a Trojan International (1988) owner. We share a lot of common parts so I do spend some time here. Since there a lot more "you" than "us" I thought I would ask:

- I want to replace the windshield rubber trim which is made by Taylor Made. I have a sample but it's fairly expensive to replace the side and front glass trim at around $300. Has anyone found an alternate source? I've looked at a few SR express models and the windshields and trim look identical (shape aside).

- Secondly, if you've done this, how do you get a nice "miter" cut where it joins at the corners and at the right length? It seems to me this could be a little tricky without some sort of jig. Maybe I'm overthinking it? I remember the first time I did crown moulding and there was more trim on the ground than installed.

thanks,
Bob

We just went through a similar quest to seal some leaks in the windshield of our '89 230 CC. In hind site I should have just bitten the bullet and ordered the "PROPER" stuff from the Sea Ray dealer. We've probably got at least $550.00 into it so far between materials and labor at three different glass shops, and the frickin' thing STILL leaks. To avoid having to remove the glass they've tried sealing it with a very expensive polyurethane sealant. It not only makes a heck of a mess, but it doesn't completely seal everything. I'm told that in order to use the original rubber gasket, you need to remove the glass. The joint in the rubber should be at the top as well, so there are less chances of a leak when the stuff shrinks in the years ahead. I gave up and bought a newer boat, for other reasons too. Good luck. You'd think that at MY age I would have learned by now; don't try to cheap out, and, do it right the first time when it comes to boats.

I'm going to try using that stuff I see on TV. I think it's called Flex-seal. It just sprays on. Worth a try. I can't pull the glass with out removing two hard tops and I'm not about to do that! I will post back next spring and let you know if this stuff works.

Metabo,
Can't wait to see how it works. The Admiral suggested that I try that stuff. Hope it works for ya. Leaky windshields are a PITA. Even when we aren't using our 230 we have to dry it out whenever it rains. :smt013

Thanks guys, I'll check out the link and post back if I wind up doing the job. BTW, Rust-oleum sells a clear spray sealant at HD which I use do my shower at home. I'm sure it the same stuff....
