My port side window was shattered in the storm (the curved section) I have a 280 2003 ......what year's model will fit ? the frame is still good -is it possible for a local glass company to fix? Marine max is working me up a pri$$ that should be interesting Any thoughts or suggestions would be great!!! A team member from Club Sea ray has already told me about the windshield on ebay -its a 2009 and does not look like it would fit

Thanks
Ken

You should try to get it directly from the manufacturer, Taylor Systems. You are right though, you better go ahead and get an insurance claim going because they are big $$.

It stands to reason that any 280 windshield from 2003+ should work but that's no guarantee it will. Sea Ray customer service could probably answer that question best.

Thanks Jason...I called Taylor System and they will not sell it to me -they told me to go threw the closest Sea Ray dealer (Marine Max)- I put in an Insurance claim but they told me its going to be awhile because they are taking care of: Business first - houses second -cars third and Boats last which I can understand -just hoping to have a windshield for the holiday weekend.. haha

Man, I am sorry to hear that. It is a real long shot but you could contact Flounder Pounder Marine. They deal with SR Surplus but the vast majority of their inventory seems to be from the Sport Yacht and Yacht lines. I would call them as they may not have all their inventory online. ph: 321-639-2951

Did you ever get the windshield repaired?

Sorry to say I have not......to be honest I have been dealing with a medical issue with my wife and have not used the boat much at all this year and pulled it last weekend and it's sitting in the driveway of my beach house. Its a tough nut to crack -Sea Ray has an exclusive with Taylor made and Taylor made will only sell a windshield to a Sea Ray dealer -plus you just can't buy the glass -you have to buy a whole section. I am going to bite the bullet and have Marine-max put the thing in ....unless you got one?

If you go with a complete windshield section make sure they give you the right top rail. Sea Ray used two methods for attaching the canvas to the windshield. One was a rubber extrusion that inserts into a groove in the wind shield top frame. The other uses snaps that are mounted to to the frame. The top frames look identical but are not. The starboard side of our boat's windshield was damaged the season before we bought it. The PO got it replaced on his insurance. Unfortunately, they sent the wrong one. The statement is kind of inaccurate because according to Sea Ray's HIN records the part they sent was correct, although the incompatible canvas and mismatching port side seemed to suggest otherwise. For quite a long time both sides, SeaRay and Taylor Made were more interested in pointing fingers than fixing our problem (an unusable boat). They did finally make it right by coming up with a work around fix. But save yourself a headache and make sure you get the right parts.

I have the rubber extrusion windshield. I had some canvas side windows made so when I wash the top boat canvas I can put up. I call them wash curtains.

I want to add a snap or two to the bottom of wash canvas Windows. But it has the rubber extrusion. Are there snaps that you insert into the rail and that you can remove when you want to put up the regular glass windows that fit into the rubber extrusion rails.

I initially made plastic inserts to slide into the slot in the frame for the extrusion. I then screwed studs with short shank screws into that. Actually I had to cut down the screws to make them short enough. That process didn’t work out in the long run. I ended up locating and screwing directly into the frame. It sounds like neither of these approaches will help you though.

I searched high and low and couldn’t find an alternative. But that was ten years ago and maybe the landscape has changed.
