Window a/c unit

It looks like a "hi-tek" souped up swamp cooler! (that doubles as a cooler)

jeez!!! My post sure got some attention. Thanks for the support and the criticism. The unit is not noticeable from the outside. I think some of you think i have a window unit hanging out of my anchor box, which couldn't be further from the truth. Please try to remember how small the damn thing is. You wouldn't know I had it unless you are feeling the cold a/c Inside.

To answer some questions, The condenser fan has vents on all sides. I have the unit out far enough into the anchor box to receive maximum air flow as well as drain any condensation into the anchor box drain.

As far as the keg orator goes, I removed the fresh water holding tank and...Ha ha ha ha ha. Just kidding. will post some pictures of the a/c soon as i finish the trim work. Thanks again for helping this 12 posting newbie.

On my old SRV 260SXL, we had a bifold door next to the main cabin companionway. It opened onto a bar/ice box and connected the galley to the "bar". One hot July, we got the smallest AC Wally World sold and turned it up on end so it just fit into the opening of that bifold door. I made a filler to take up any space around the AC out of some blue foam board and we plugged it in. It cooled the cabin very well and all the condensate ran into that ice box which had a direct drain overboard. Used it like that for six years. I figured the compressor would die after one season standing on its side, but it still works. I sold it with the boat and my friend who now owns the boat still uses it. You know what they say about necessity being a mother, err.. something like that. LOL

A turkey fryer??? That's funny!! Pictures to come... I installed a 12x10x16 wide unit in the very front of the v berth. I removed the mirror, used a sawzall to open the hole 2 inches and slid it into the front part of the anchor box which in my case is not used. I tilt the hatch up for proper exhaust ventilation. On the inside, about 6 inches of it are present. Built a teak shelf to hold the unit in place. 5000 btu. Very cold, $150.

Every window A/C I have ever seen requires electricity. Just out of curiosity, where are you getting yours from?

What kind of Boat did he have?

< The original KoolerAire prototype was tested on a 25 foot Parker Extended Cabin Boat. It worked
extremely well cooling the Cuddy which is approximately 7 ft. X 7 ft. X 5 ft. KoolerAire will work just as
well in any small, enclosed space! >

I can't say with 100% certainty, but that does look like the type of boat he owned.

That was a fun weekend. We had a lot of laughs.

There was a guy 2 slips over from me that was experimenting with way to cool his boat by blowing air through a hole in a cooler that was filled with ice. We ended up hanging out with him for the weekend. We all got drunk and laughed at his crazy idea. The next morning he came out of his boat to tell us that it worked great and that he was going to patent the idea. I'm not sure if he followed through on it, but I see that there is a company selling these things and the location is very close to where this guy lived. (he lived in Saddle River, NJ)

If it works, it might be easier, cheaper and safer then sticking a window AC on the nose of the boat.

Once again though the high school physics. The latent heat of fusion for water is 144 BTU/lb. A very tiny A/C unit is 5000 BTU/hr. Dividing, we find almost 35 pounds of ice per hour or about four and a half bags per hour to provide that much cooling. The 7-11 guy is going to love owners of this thing.

Can you say "stupid idea?"

my prior boat was a Baja H2X, it's a 24' with a cuddy cabin. I didn't install a window unit but I bought one that I would use when I spent the night on the boat at a marina where my friends have their boats. I would set it in the doorway and drap a towel in the opening to somewhat seal it off. My buddy called it hillbilly air, but it worked and we could sleep in as long as we wanted.
