My windlass only works to pull the anchor up, the motor will work to pull it up but the motor wont turn to let it down. When I push the switch on the dashboard to let the anchor down, I hear a clicking noise that seems to be coming from the control box but the motor won't turn to let it down.

Can someone tell me where I can find an instruction manual or a website detailing how the system works so I can diagnose the problem and then fix it?

Go look at your original post. it might also help to tell us the manufacturer of the windlass.

Your owner's manual should contain wiring diagrams that will lay everything out. If you don't have an owner's manual, you should be able to download it from Sea Ray.

If that fails, the high current breaker for the windlass is going to be located very close to the batteries for the simple fact that a short circuit would heat the windlass cables up like a toaster oven element. For that reason it is good practice to minimize the length of wire that will get hot.

Thank you for your reply. The wiring diagrams only show the schematic of the wiring, not the location of the elements. I'll follow your suggestion and start looking in the battery areas.

The bow thruster does in fact have a separate breaker close to its battery connection. The 420AC has 9 batteries in three different locations. I'll start looking. Thanks again.

Check the switch for corrosion. I had a similar problem (down but not up) after checking all other possibilities it turned out to be the switch. A little cleaning and all was well.
