I purchased 02 Sea Rady 240SD. It has the Simpson Lawrence Windlass Model 500. While I still have the boat in dry dock, I knew I needed to test the windlass and measure the entire length of the rode as well as condition. I ended up with 150 feet total including 10 feet of chain. While the windlass worked fine dispensing the rode....it started slipping when raising the anchor.
The hex screw that goes into the clutch was loose. I tightened this. Still slipping raising the anchor. I cautiously reached on the side of the side of the windlass and pressed the control level in. When I did this...it retrieved the rode fine. When I let go...slipped again.
Newbie in terms of windlass. Based off of the parts diagram, should be a straight forward repair replacing the lever and tension spring. Any recommendations/advice please let me know. As always thank you for your knowledgeable advice.

That is a common failure mode for windlasses. The pressure finger gets worn down and/or the spring weakens. Replacing both is a good plan. If after replacement, the problem persists, it could be that your rode needs to be reconditioned or replaced. It can stiffen up over time and cause slippage. Soaking it in downey can help.

I agree with the above. Remove the rode and soak it in a bucket with fabric softener. Dry it good and reinstall and I’ll bet you’re good to go.
