Will this work on my boat? (Anchor Roller)

Shining...... I seen that roller on e-bay.......but last week my local MM Sea Ray dealer had a " garage sale ".....and I purchased the same piece at the sale....real cheap.

Looking at the photo of your boat.....I assume the bow light will be in the way ( not hard to remedy ). You will need a FLAT surface of 3 1/2" X 14" to mount the new roller. If you have that....the rest is easy. It has a 5 bolt pattern...use S/S bolts & nuts with fender washers ... a backing plate for extra strenght and some 5200.. Make sure its inline with your windlass ( if you have one ).....and your good to go. It looks like it may work for you.

Matter of fact I installed mine yesterday......the problem I was having was that my anchor DIDN'T deploy when I released the windlass. The line would slack and just lay on the deck. My wife had to run up an kick the anchor off the roller.... :smt021. This was due to the original roller being straight out. Enough said about that. Now with the new roller it works perfect.

here it is installed:

here is the original roller :

Good Luck with your install.

Don, thanks for the reply. I don't have a windlass. I'll be dropping the anchor, or should I say my wife  manually. That's still better than the way we do it now.
I couldn't get your links to work.
Thanks, Mike

Have you looked at the bow roller available for the 225 Weekender? Also you can get bow rollers at places like West Marine
http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wc...oryId=687&langId=-1&subdeptNum=197&storeNum=5

or Boater's World http://www.boatersworld.com/product/156780249.htm

It's also possible that the bow roller from a 260DA (like the one on mine) will work also. What I would do if I was going to attempt this project myself, is first make a template of the shape of the bow out of cardboard and then check out what's available either from the dealer or at a Marine supply store. With the template you can quickly determine if the roller you are looking at will fit.

Just one more comment Mike. Units like the one on my 260DA (more commonly called anchor chutes) have a loop on the end of the chute. This is so the rope stays in the chute while at anchor and also holds the anchor in place when it's stored on the chute. If you use one of these you will have to cut off that end loop so you can remove your rope and anchor when you pull it in. Bow rollers on the other hand like the one on the 225 are just that.....they are strictly rollers without the chute and the end loop.

Just think everything thru carefully Mike and I know you will come up with a solution. On SRO I remember a posting where one of the European or down under members had installed a bow roller on his 240DA. I just can't remember exactly what he did unfortunately :smt021 .

Thanks Dave. I think I would want an anchor chute. Also, because of no windlass, probably add a cleat to secure the line when in stored position. I'll be thinking this through the winter so I'll have a good idea on what to do when I pull it out of storage in the spring. Maybe post a DIY when I do it. I'm sure there are many 240's out there that would like a set-up like that to make anchoring much easier!

I think adding a cleat on the bow would be a good idea. You won't have to cut the "hoop" on the end of the anchor chute and you can leave the anchor stored off the bow of your boat without having to put it in the anchor locker everytime you retrieve it. This would keep your anchor locker cleaner as well. It would make anchoring easier as well as you wouldn't have to secure the anchor to a cleat off the side of the boat.

Exactly my thoughts. I will post a DIY when I do it in the spring.:smt024
