So after 3 months I finally got my boat back from having the lower shift cable, gimbal bearing, u-joints, coupler, bellow, and impeller replaced. I tried running it on muffs Saturday and it wouldn't start. I found the mechanic knocked the coil wire off. Once I got it back on I ran it for a few minutes and all seemed fine. Took it to the ramp and after about 5 minutes of running at idle I was getting an alarm. At idle I had around 40 psi for oil pressure and then saw my water temp gauge was reading 0. Will an alarm go off for no temp? I'm going to pull the sender tonight and test but does that sound right? Whats the best way to ensure I have good water flow through the engine?

The dash gauges have nothing to do with the alarm system. There are separate sensors for the oil pressure and engine temp. Only three things will activate your alarm on that era engine... Over temp, low oil pressure and low drive fluid.

On a hose, check the amount of water coming out of the transom plate exhaust ports. Or, do the raw water impeller test (best done while in the water).

If you have the MEFI-3 along with the solid beep mentioned above it also has a double beep for a sensor low voltage.
