1. Take care of her, and she'll take care of you!

2. Sometimes, she can be a real B...!

3. She's beautiful!

Anyone else? (sorry ladies...join in if you like:grin:)

Because even though you treat them well during the break in period they, still cost way too much to keep, provide too many headaches, and..... even if she is perfect...you still want something better.

Come on now. You were thinking the same thing. (Disclaimer) Sheree, if you read this, of course you know this was not meant to imply you. Just "CHICKS" in general. And Gerry, your gonna need more popcorn!

I had to go to Gary's secret boating reference site but here is the answer:

According to Yarns of the Sea, Legends, Myths, and Superstitions: Although women were considered to bring bad luck at sea, mariners always use the pronoun "she" when referring to their ships. Whether its proper name is masculine, or whether it is a man o'war, a battleship, or a nuclear submarine, a ship is always referred to as "she."

This old tradition is thought to stem from the fact that in the Romance languages, the word for "ship" is always in the feminine. For this reason, Mediterranean sailors always referred to their ship as "she", and the practice was adopted over the centuries by their English-speaking counterparts.

One source suggests that a ship "was nearer and dearer to the sailor than anyone except his mother." What better reason to call his ship "she"?

Because, as they get older, they require more and more money to look good.

(damn.... I sure hope my wife doesn't read this stuff.. that New England trip will be done without me.)

because if you say "He's a good one, I love taking him out and riding the waves" you sound gay? (or when in NY "turd Burglar")

Oh brother...I was just looking for some laughs.

In Spanish....

"el barco"
"el buque"
"el portaaviones"
"el submarino"

In French:

"le bateau"
"le bateau a moteur"
etc.

.... a masculine noun at least 50% of the time in romance languages.

I vote for the "high maintenance" and "high cost of paint and powder" theories.
