By the end of the day, my port shoe ends up coming untied...
Here's a little background: 2008, 12" New Balance 476's with stock lines. Although I'm starboard handed, I try to tie-off equally on each side. I take them out every day, pretty much all day, and try to keep the port/starboard drives in sync. I thought I had the knots down after so many years of dogging off, but this one has me baffled. Any suggestions? Maybe some after market lines (I think the stock lines are 1/8")?

I think it's normal for the left..I mean port to always come undone prematurely.

Really? You really asked this question on CSR?

You cross your legs with your right shoe on top the of left. Reverse it and your right shoe will come untied. This was a trick question, right?

A few follow up questions to determine the cause of this line knot failure:

Could the line be catching on a portable generator on the swim platform or in the bilge? :smt021

Could this be an issue related to failure to properly winterize? :smt021

And last, have you been molested (patted down in TSA language) while flying? :wow:

If you have none of these issues it may just be operator error and a little remedial training will solve the crisis.

P.S. This is a better thread than some others we have had today. :smt001

There was a recall on the New Balance 476's. Sorry you were not notified. Mine were replace at no charge.

Now you know I wouldn't go there!

Actually I do put them up for the winter... but didn't know there were specific procedures... you may be on to something!

No... my junk has not been compromised.

Knot school again?

Thanks!

You could get these.

I would recommend this instead. That other shoe would not be welcome on my deck!!

I have seen boats with aft facing controls for docking. If you installed that along with a "go forward" camera, then it would be your starboard shoe that was causing the problem. Since you are only being shown starboard shoes as recommended "fixes", ----well, there you go!
Two rights will fix a wrong! Or is it two wrongs don't - never mind!

We need to do a root cause analysis.
Are you missing your port sock?
Pull the safety lanyard until it releases, open the hatch and do a inspection.
If you cant clearly make a determination you may need to get a Boroscope. They have basic economy units at harbor freight.
