Yesterday while breaking up the raft-up, I’m on the bow releasing the front line when I hear a splash! Yep Sandy went overboard! She said she was pushing off and just fell in. Turns out she broke her finger in the process, middle one too! I’m sure glad she does not work for a Cruise Line!

Sounds like grounds for spousal abuse. I see a trip to the jewelry store in your future.:smt043

Ouch !!.

Guess who will be doing the house work now.

Glad that's all she broke! My wife fell in the water one October day while loading our 270 on the trailer....water temp was 60 degrees. She was holding the boat/stern, not the line attached to the cleat, and a gust of wind blew the boat away from the dock. I was cranking the boat up on the trailer and heard a splash! Good thing she had a change of clothes on the boat and only drowned her cell phone. Ever seen a wet cat?....that was her and not happy about it. I took her out to dinner and that helped warm her up a bit....burrrrr, Mike.

Banned everyone from standing on the swim platform after my wife fell off when backing into the berth. Still haven't lived it down it was nearly 2 years ago for goodness sake!

I don't think I can come up with many scenarios scarier than someone falling off the back of the boat while backing into the slip. Thanks for the new nightmare.

Yep! Me too! My friends wife somehow backed over him in the water last year in the 1000 Islands while skiing. He bleed to death and was a Cardiologist. Dam shame. She struggles now everyday and is a Medical Doctor also with two kids in college. All she could say to me was she was sorry. Still frustrates me and she lives with it every day. That's why they are called accidents and we learn from them. Mike.

I can, unlike virtually everyone on the planet who owns a boat, my wife CAN'T FREAKING SWIM. I've tried, honestly, I have.

Yikes! That's a scary one. I couldn't imagine the horror.

There was a Harbormaster at a local marina in the Bay Area who years ago took a boat ride on a nice evening with his wife. At some point he "fell overboard" and his wife took the helm to "look for him" and finally called the Coast Guard after 30 minutes or so. They came to her aid and she advised that she was trying to find him for some time. Their response was that she HAD found him....several times. She got away with it!

As one who has taken the unexpected dunking I can relate to her embarrassment. Glad it was only her finger that got broken.

I can...someone deliberately jumping off the back while a drunk operator is at the helm.

I've posted this before, and I think it bears repeating so we can all remember there are idiots among us.

And to the OP, I'm glad your wife is OK! A finger heals a lot faster than an arm, leg or neck.

That video is scary. When my engines are running nobody leaves the cockpit. Swim plat door is shut and while docking nobody speaks or touches anything. I would have tought my kid a lesson after that jump

Hope the wife is feeling better

I have seen 2 other wives go off the back of other boats in our marina. Same scenario, new owners, step onto the platform as the boat enters the berth, lean over to grab the ropes and captain hits forward at that time.

As I said I am really on my guard now and make sure I am watching and downright authoritive if any one goes to open the rear door.

Just for reference and since the thread has taken a different direction here, when she fell overboard we were in the middle of splitting the raft up and she was pushing off the other boat. Our boat was not running. I do not let anyone on the swim platform when the boat is running. No one is allowed to ride on the bow while the boat is running either, but then that would be for another thread. The other boat shut his engines off until I retrieved my MOB. She now has a little metal splint on her middle finger, which she is proud to show off!

Apologies, didnt mean to hijack it.

Coming back from Fells Point Festivel a few years ago we were out by Pooles Island up on plane running and it was one of those really dark nights. There were about 7 people on the boat, I happen to turn around and look back and one of them was SITTING ON THE FREAKIN' SWIM PLATFORM..................I was so pi$$ed, we would have never found him if he fell off.

Bill, I will tell you the entire story next time I see you...........unbelievable.

No apology necessary threads often change direction. I just wanted to make it clear that I do not take the safety of my crew lightly (since the tread was going in that direction), and at no time was she in any danger, other than her pride.
