Trying to put a trip together from Stillwater Mn to Davenport IA and was wondering if anybody has done that trip. Looking for how long it will take and if it's interesting enough to do. The fartherst I have been is Alma WI.

Thanks

Andrew

Andrew-We boat out of La Crosse and have made it as far south as Dubuque. It is a worthwhile trip at least to there. I think the Quad Cities are another 70 miles or so south from there. Time wise it really depends on what you want to do along the way. The river traffic south of La Crosse is a lot less than you're used to on the St Croix. If you want to PM me I can give you some ideas on where to stop, and what to do along the way.

Thanks I will PM ya.

My plan is taking 10 days off total leaving two days to spare for barge traffic just in case. Just curious if that would give enough time without too much rushing.

Also, how is the scenic view in that area?

I've made the trip from LeClaire (just above Davenport) to Lake Pepin and on to Stillwater three or four times. We take two days to do the 11 locks between LeClaire and Pepin. That leaves little to no time for exploring river towns except when in port for the evening. We cruise at around 25 mph, by the way. On the way up and back, we generally stay in the Marquette / Prairie Du Chein area.

A lot can go wrong and, once, it did. But, with fair weather and good luck, its a great trip.
